In WordPress 2.7 we get threaded comments - now, one approach is to let the CSS get incredibly nested, but we think that can be confusing and can also lead to interminably dull and slow loading threads as found on failblog.org and similar. So we did a bit of thinking about the problem and have come up with a different way of dealing with it - collapsible threads.
Basically, once you get past two levels in, all deeper comments are hidden using a bit of javascript and you need to click a "read further comments" link to expand them out.
Comments even deeper need another click until, finally, you find yourself at the end of the thread and everything returns to normal.
I'd quite like some feedback on how usable you find it when on our new theme at:
