Threaded Comments in WordPress 2.7 - our solution - what do you think?

In WordPress 2.7 we get threaded comments - now, one approach is to let the CSS get incredibly nested, but we think that can be confusing and can also lead to interminably dull and slow loading threads as found on failblog.org and similar. So we did a bit of thinking about the problem and have come up with a different way of dealing with it - collapsible threads.

Basically, once you get past two levels in, all deeper comments are hidden using a bit of javascript and you need to click a "read further comments" link to expand them out.

Comments even deeper need another click until, finally, you find yourself at the end of the thread and everything returns to normal.

I'd quite like some feedback on how usable you find it when on our new theme at:

Would also be interested to hear what you think of the theme design overall.

I would maybe make the date/time lines a shade darker because it's a bit hard to read, although it could just be my screen.

The comments js is very slick and reminds me of Digg's comments system. Personally I prefer all the comments to be loaded because I'm too lazy to keep clicking, but that's just me probably.

It's a nice looking theme, well designed. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of 2.7 in action.

That theme's a branch from our original Anvil/Grasslands direction, and very easy to derive new themes from - so we're going to be building a whole new set from that. Just trying to decide how much to GPL!
