There seems to be a lack of understanding of how to read charts and compare values.
In 1993 the UK had a $1tn economy - the eqivelent of 2.6 billion ounces of gold.
In 2007 the UK had a $3tn economy - the eqivelent of 4.2 billion ounces of gold.
In 2021 the UK had a $3.2tn economy - the eqivelent of 1.8 billion ounces of gold.

Guilty.
I shudder when I think of all the crap we have bought and discarded in nearly 40 years of home ownership. Especially Argos flat-pack, or should that be tat-pack furniture.
Best investments have been Bosch tools (repairable if they do go wrong) and stuff made of real wood.

But is profit/turnover being retained and taxed in the UK or do foreign companies access R&D grants and various other tax relief opportunities then ship the profits away from our shores?
We're the 5th largest economy (kind of) but we don't seem to have much money floating around to pay for things. We have to rob the poor to subsidise the rich.
If manufacturing is booming (probably skewed in favour of big billion pound projects instead of a vibrant SME base), why are we having to consistently borrow ever more to pay for basic services? Perhaps the cost of these services has also risen, so any increase in revenue from various sectors is wiped out? So comparing data from 1990 is irrelevant as all other costs have risen in line with the increasing turnover of industry?

I am a bit puzzled about why you are implying that adding the swings caused by changing exchange rates and commodity prices somehow makes the data better. Its just adding noise.

We'll.....thats not true.
They wanted to renationalise everything. The plan was to buy out shares in water companies for instance.
Imagine adding that debt to the bill, them having to fund all the upgrades to seperate out sewers and surface water (another few hundred billion).
Lucky really....that everyone else saw the madness in their plan!

Seems there's a movement to replace her with Sunak and Mordaunt.
A PM who has to U-turn on just about everything announced in their budget and sack the second highest ranking member of government just after a month can't last long.
And hopefully, they'll take Suella Braverman with them, and shut up about the "anti-growth coalition".

Truss and Kwarteng are not just a double act and are def not individuals in terms of policy - they were 2 of 5 who authored Britannia Unchained and should be considered a party within a party, one goes they all go. Their cunning plan may or may not have worked long term but the world markets have made it clear they are not willing to give it a go so it is dead in the water and to be put back in the bottom drawer

I would love to see our new King use his powers to dissolve Government and force a general election. It'll cause turmoil with people will be shouting an abuse of power, he shouldn't be able to, etc, etc, but I do think it's a perfectly viable option considering the current state of affairs.

Why do they even bother interviewing opposition politicians? All they ever do is say "We're better" and call for either resignations or elections.
It's not that they have anything constructive or even coherent to say. They just interviewed a shadow Treaury spokesman (or something), and when asked "So what else do you think the Government should have done", he dodged the question and just said "Well, Labour is better".
