Adam Petford

I just wanted to share with you my greatest ever LinkedIn message

"Do you mind if I send you over an invitation to join my network"

It always gets a response and usually a positive one its really great for starting engagement and it can be used as part of an in-mail | group message or via an introduction

Whats your favorite LinkedIn message and why?

'Go away and never contact me again'.

Most of the invitations I get are from people I have never heard of and will never have any reason to be linked to.

The ones where someone has clearly taken time and effort in ensuring what they want us to look at is a potentially good fit and not just a case of pestering. Random requests, however politely put together will not get a response from us at any time.

Not interested in making connections so not a lot of point in sending a message to anyone. I use it to keep in co tact with a few old army friends but that's about it.

You should not connect with random people you have no business connecting with

I always remove people i have no business with, why have hundreds or even thousands of pointless contacts and if your linkedin coaching is all about expanding your network by convincing people to connect, i would ask for what purpose?

Do you also like lots of Facebook likes and Twitter followers? None of these have any value unless you do something about converting them into some type of actual business and a large linkedin network tells me someone does not care who they connect with.

Accumulating pointless contacts is pointless, but as with FB the misguided obsess over pointless numbers,

please like my fb page (why why why) how to annoy people and spend time achieving nothing useful, linkedin is not much different imo if you are simply trying to build a big network you have no connection with.

That would just be ignored by me, I'm not a fan of linkedin anyway, its shark infested with recruitment consultants. I get endless requests from people who have 'something to offer me' which is typically beneficial to them but of little interest to me.

LinkedIn networks have fallen apart and just become a free for all. It used to be LinkedIn truly showed you who people knew, in real life. Now it is just like the majority of social networks.

I used to only connect with people who I knew in the real world. But now I just accept anyone with a real profile picture (never send invitations). I have found that this has given me a wider network so stuff I post on LinkedIn gets more reach.

I used to love LinkedIn when you could knock out 70 inmails in a day and get them all back a week later to try again.

Used to get some good results.

Now they have killed it one cut after another.

Most people aren't listening, using turned off email accounts to avoid the spam, so you need to pump out the numbers to get any result.

Social selling I feel is more ugly than an inmail.

I'm liking what your saying because I have ulterior motives, be my friend, lets have a conversation, when all you want is biz.

These are not real relationships, just sneakiness.

I read someone on Linkedin (A self appointed social media expert) who was saying IN PUBLIC

You need to form relationships and engage with people so you can later do business.

Buddy, that simply means you are being slimy in your approach, this faux friends approach makes me vomit, just be straight with people, i can do this for you, this might help, do you want to discuss it? Liking their posts, or engaging in online banter with an ulterior motive is very off putting

Or worse, quizzes / maths problems "that only 4% of people are intelligent enough to figure out". Very productive.

These are hilarious, most of them most people could do aged 10!

They show me that people just want reassurance from someone, hey do this simple quiz and you are a genius..

SHARE SHARE SHARE, look people I am a genius

Er, nope

I don't think it's a half way decent intro, let along the greatest ever.

I never respond to unsolicited requests from people I don't know who can't be bothered to let me know why they feel it would be worth us connecting.

Your message isn't personalised to the individual - so why would I respond?
