Hi Guys,

Hope everyone is well and having a good weekend.

My wife and i have been interest in setting up a nursery in the town we live in for quite some time now.

Last week the perfect property came on the market, ideal size, perfect gardens, very secure and perfect location.

The building is grade II listed and needs some building work done hopefully only minor. But we will find out when we view it next week.

Just interested to know if we could be entitled to any type of start up grant? Has anyone had a grant before or would we just be wasting our time applying for one?

Also does anyone on here run / own a nursery?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks Guys,
Stephen.

Can’t help on the grant, my disabled daughter is a room leader in a nursery, just changed jobs and despite redundancies she was kept on even as the newest member of staff.

What I would recommend, assuming you go ahead, is set your payment rules and stick to them. Her old nursery never charged parents for collecting their kids late, believing they would lose business, her new nursery charges everyone every time after a 5 minute grace period.

Her new nursery is busier than the old one, and doesn’t have too many late collectors of kids.

Very useful information. If you can then I would recommend using a childcare/nursery management platform to handle everything. Yes there will be costs associated but far less admin in the long-run and makes it much easier for the parents/guardians to book/pay/monitor etc.

    Hi Stephen,

Good luck with your venture. My Mum has been running Children day Nurseries in London for about 20 years, she has 5 all together. She also helps new start up companies in setting up nurseries so if you need any further advice let me know. I am seeing her this evening and will ask the question regarding what grants you can apply for. Where are you looking to open up?

Hello! I was just reading through this thread - would you be able to point me in the right direction?
