Start Up Loan With A Backstop For Investors?

Hello everyone,

At some point in the near future I shall be seeking investment in the form of a start-up loan (potentially up to £30,000) to assist with the development of a web application which incorporates AI/Machine Learning. The app is still in the idea phase at present, although I can confirm that any investment/funding would be used to accelerate progress, cover development costs, and bring it to market more efficiently. It’s a niche project with strong commercial potential, and I’m confident in its viability.

In return for investment, I would be open to negotiating equity in the business. I understand the risks involved for early-stage investors and want to structure any agreement in a way that’s fair, transparent, and mutually beneficial. While the business is still pre-revenue (as I've eluded to above) I can guarantee that any investment made would be safeguarded. I have a reliable secondary income through paid employment and am fully prepared to use that income, if necessary, to ensure that any investor is repaid in full, on time and with interest - regardless of the start-up's initial performance.

Whilst I am still in the process of putting together a proposal, I would be most grateful if anyone knows of a platform or possible route to speak to potential investors who may be interested in getting involved with my project. I believe it to be a high risk/reward business idea, but as mentioned above, I am happy to provide a backstop to ensure any investor/s get a return.

Many thanks.

There are numerous threads on here about investment - a forum search should dig some out

In short though, investors invest in people and businesses, not in ideas - they will want to see a business that is scaleable and they'll want to see a clear exit, where they can get a significant return (ie 5 x their investment)

They won't be impressed by you having a job - you need to commit to "their' business

On the other hand, start up loans will take a different ultimate view (but will still focus on your ability to run the business) -

Both will want to see a credible, researched plan and projections

And they will want to know how much you have invested. Have you taken out a loan, a second mortgage, sold the car? If you aren't prepared to put in the cash why would any investor.

And any investor will want to see a MVP not an idea. There are already thousands of apps with AI/ML. Most already failing. Why will yours be any different?
