Hi, I am thinking of starting a oven cleaning business. I have a few problems though. I own a car not a van and do not have the funds for a dip tank to put the oven parts in to clean. Is they a way round this for a month or two until I have the funds to buy a dip tank ?
I have a few customers wanting me to clean their ovens asap so need some info.
Thanks

Have you tried looking at something like StartUp loans or support from your local Enterprise Hub?

Otherwise all I can suggest is a bike, some Fairy Power spray and some brillo pads! (sorry...)

Best of luck :)
Thanks for the reply. I have not yet checked about a start up loan etc never thought of it to be honest. I own a car I just don't have a van lol.
Thanks

A good friend of mine runs a very successful oven cleaning service and she doesn't use a tip tank.

The only parts that can go into the tank are the racks from inside and any over removable parts. A half decent steam cleaning cleans them just as well.

Don't be fooled by the likes of dirtbusters who insist you must have a dip tank. This is just not true. The main cleaning of an oven is the inside. Find a way to clean the racks (a steam cleaner as suggested) and you are up and running.

Not that I'm a big fan of them, but can't you just buy the kit you need with a credit card and then pay it off when you've completed the jobs?

Good line of work to be in though, a mate of mine used to do very well cleaning ovens for a living. Really easy to market as well.

Job near me advertised as £19k to £25k for an oven cleaner.

I see potential if you have a few guys working for you but if doing it all yourself, I don't see any real money in this as you aren't able to make £100+ an hour are you ?

Back in 2000 I ran a well known franchised operation for about 7 years before selling it. I was expensive, good and busy but now every man and his dog is doing it and trying to cut each others throat in the process.
It is now a fairly easy way to earn 'some' money but if you cannot afford a basic dip tank, chemicals and equipment plus a van, you will struggle, not to mention some basic training at the very least, not to mention marketing and advertising, soon your friends and initial customers will dry up and the harsh reality of business will rear its ugly head. As with most businesses, to do it well and make money I'm afraid it's going to cost.

That is the crux I'm afraid. You cannot build a business (or even just a job) out of friends and acquaintances and if you don't know how to obtain extra customers, you will go under in weeks. The OP needs way more research and a lot more capital.

The advertising/gaining new customers is not the problem. I have many ways to advertise that will work. I was curious about the dip tanks people use and if they are an absolute must. But like stated before .. a steamer will clean racks just as easy.
Thanks

If you're talking about a cheap DIY steamer you'll be there all day with little result. If you're talking about a commercial steamer then get a dip tank and dont forget a rinse tank. They are so much easier and efficient. You'll need training, knowledge or experience to do a proper job.
