Anyone else got one of these and the battery getting 'really' hot ? Like burning your legs its too hot

don't worry about that at all - its when the mother board packs up after 15 months that the real bills start! Spent £1,700 on mine - also spent £700 on two Toshiba's at the same time and they are still going strong.

I have a Sony Vaio (FW Series) and never have any problem with the battery getting hot or anything, maybe you have a faulty machine or battery.

 

People still refer to these machines as 'laptops' when in effect they should not be placed straight onto your knee. You are likely blocking fans, and it will cause motherboard overheating eventually, requiring an expensive repair.

A couple of tips I will repeat once more

1) Do not set your 'laptop' directly onto your lap, put a tray or the likes underneath it to let it breathe.

2) Never ever use a laptop on a bed... it is even worse as the bedclothes come up around the sides and block all the fans..... overheating is even quicker and more painful here

The whole term 'laptop' is a little misleading these days, and this gets worse the higher a spec we need. turn it over and you will see small rubber feet, which are supposed to lift the main case up a little to let air underneath......setting it directly onto your lap negates these, so a tray or the likes is the only way.

Even better is to actually use it at a table.

If you use a tray or the table, you will most definitely extend the life of your laptop.

Phil you will get the odd 'dodgy' one no matter what the make, but thankfully for most Vaio owners, it is definitely the 'odd' one, rather than the norm.

Sony price their laptops (sticking with the name, even though it doesn't really fit lol) at somewhere around where they should cost the end user, and as a result they do not have to drop their quality as alarmingly as some of the other manufacturers. I'd say they are amongst the best.

I get laptops coming in for repair every day in life, and i don't get a lot of hardware problems associated with Sony Vaio's. Just as well as their parts are equally expensive

ME ME ME!!

I have a PCG model and although I balance it on my leg so only the middle 6 inches of the base is in contact with anything it gets so hot I have taken the plastic cover off the top to see if that helps.

What model is yours, I always assumed it is because I use it too much but maybe it IS a fault.

 

Certainly it is a fault....... these things are not designed to be sitting on your leg anymore

Think about how much of a step up Vista caused to the internal specification of the average laptop, and then think about the heat and how they actually work on it inside such a slimline case ...... it is difficult nowadays to make a 'laptop' that will not feel incredibly warm on your leg.

Odd one it may well be - I will not buy sony again given my experience and their attitude.

Sony Vaio is not a brand I would touch with a barge pole!

I love mine and the actual laptop doesn't heat up, just the charger.

MrPWN - I have a VGN-SZ4XWN/C and even not on my knee or bed it seems to get well to hot.

 

But who will you find to be any better? The others who churn out the 'disposable laptops' all have poor service too, they can afford nothing else considering the price these things are being sold at.

I'd prefer they charged a fair price, and gave a decent service.... but it seems the mega-store idea has caught on.

As I said though, spares for the Sony range are quite expensive, and this is a little excessive imho too.

Maybe one day, when people realise the wastage that there is on this whole 'laptop' phenomenon, and that these are not fit to lace the boots of a decent desktop (which will last longer, out perform it, and makes no pretences about being able to be used on your knee), we'll see decent machines being sold again (though we will pay for the privilege probably).
