Following on from a comment by Paula Barratt about the list she has of songs for her funeral I wondered if anyone else has a list?

Would you have something gentle or something like

Since you've been gone by Rainbow (the band, not Bungle and Zippy)

Perhaps your partner doesn't like your list and plays

I ain't missing you at all by John Waite

instead. What song would you HATE to be played?

I want

You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house.

I think I'll have Motorhead, The Ace of Spades

" You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools
But that's the way I like it baby, I don't wanna live forever"

"Closing Time" by Lenny Cohen

"always on my mind" - can't work out which one is best, Pet Shop Boys or Elvis. "Whiter shade of pale" is good though but probally overplayed. At my MIL funeral, we were joing about playing "patricia the stripper" - you can guess what her first name was:rolleyes:

Always look on the bright side of life by Monty python

I like the lyrics " you come from nothing then you go back to nothing so what have you lost"

When I get killed by a car driver at the round about at Chorley Tesco. Nobody indicates there you got 0.2 sec to move once you know their going from the roundabout to driving into the carpark. The roundabout is joined right onto their carpark so i when I'm out jogging I know one day I may not notice the smoke signals.

Hmmm.... I'll probably kill this thread stone dead with my choice:

The Sanctus and Benedictus from Gounod's Messe Solennelle de Sainte Cecile.

(Google will tell you if you are wondering).

If anyone can find this - please get back to me

I was working in Belfast (2000) and attended a gig one evening by a band called Briar. They had a CD called 'Ballards & Craic'. The last song was their sign off song - and I used it as my sign off song for training courses until I lost the CD after a training gig in Barcelona in 2001 (yes, I have a music licence!).
"So it's goodbye, goodnight, got to be moving on ..............(lots of different lines depending on the verse) ..... 'til then keep singing this song"
A certain High Steet store became a customer and promised to trace it for me - to no avail.

If anyone in N.Ireland has heard of Briar, or can get the CD - please PM me - then I'll make a digital copy and save it for my funeral.

At my sister's funeral we had Life by Desiree and You'll See by Madonna. Very appropriate for her :)

Funny I was thinking about this myself this morning....it would be (I think..I do change my mind quite a bit) JS Bach's Choral Prelude for organ..."Ich ruf zu dir Jesu Christ' otherwise known as the beautiful music played in the original film 'Solaris' by Andrei Tarkovsky (not the remake with George Clooney) :)

Great song. I prefer the Metallica version.

Warning NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED OR EASILY OFFENDED:

At my dads funeral, we had the theme tune to the 'The Great Escape' :(

Myself and my mum and my sisters all knew it was coming of course but the rest of the mourners were slightly bemused to say the least :) Very appropriate for him though because he had suffered for a long time.

Claire, that made me laugh out loud and then I felt all cold and tingly and sad.

Excellent choice.

At a friend's funeral they played "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness. I'll never forget the feeling as it was playing - being in this huge church with that bellowing through. Amazing. Not sure what song I'd choose for mine though!
