Depends on the type of event. If it’s for the local meet up of the drainage and dredging association FB probably won’t be much use.

In any case, you will need to pay for adverts, just posting event details isn’t going to work.

But a highly targeted advert which leads to a fully optimised page may work well. For the right type of event.

@miaedwards once again demonstrates a complete lack of understanding on how marketing works.

Yeah. FB is great to promote each and everything. if you target the relevant audience, you will get the better response.

I got a great response from facebook for my blog named
"Which things should be considered before buying expired domains?"
200+ users in a single day.

you can get the idea from my blog. write an irresistible description to drive traffic.
search for "intuition softech blog" and you will get the list :)

Is FB good for promoting events? The problem is, I simply can't think of better ways than social media to promote an event. Will I need to spend lot of on advertising?

so you just wanted more views for your blog and nothing else? Usually people try to convert them into sales.

its for singles based in London. I have to be honest. I have never purchased anything from FB. Even when I did sign up to anything its usually through a FB link from another site

I built a wordpress theme/plugin for a client in Holland for doing just this. It works well because people create their own events and promote on their own FB pages.

A awful lot depends on the type of event and who you are targeting. Singles is far to wide a group. It needs to be age and interest focused as well. Maybe even different adverts male and female and their needs and responses are different.
