Small limited company accounting software

Hi all,

Please can anyone point me in the direction of some good accounting software (for business owners, not accountants)? I run a small business and would like some software which will me let create the required returns for companies house and the HMRC. Local accountants want at least £1,500 to do it so would prefer to have a go myself using some decent software.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Most online bookkeeping packages will provide you with a set of abbreviated accounts for companies house - however these wont meet HMRC's filing requirements for corporation tax returns as 'full' accounts are required

you dont say the nature of your business or how you currently keep your records so its hard to say if £1500 is a good fee or not, but it does seem a little steep for a small business on face value.

I work in financial services for mainly one company so only receive one monthly income payment and few out-goings. I need the software to formulate all the returns, not just to companies house.

Thanks

The cheapest (but not the best) option is to register online for Corporation Tax and download HMRC's free CT600 software. This free tool allows you to complete Companies House and HMRC returns. It does however require a bit of knowledge of company accounting.

Get yourself a reasonable bookkeeping package for a low price (Xero being the most highly recommended on here but there are many alternatives) & get to grips with doing the books yourself to a high standard, so of course you're looking for a package that works well for you.

Find yourself a decent accountant to take care of the high quality books to full accounts stage for a reasonable price - obviously you'll need to meet a few & make sure they're quoting based on you producing good quality books.

An accountant should do much more for your business than just turning out the accounts ;)
