Is it just me or are the forums slowwwwwwwwwwwww this morning...?

Loading is taking for EVER and i'm having to refresh a couple of times before it does anything....

it's getting boring....

Hi there,

I've had a look into this - the UKBF vBulletin server is reporting a nice low load, so that shouldn't be the problem.

However, it looks like the ad server is being a bit lethargic ... I'll get onto it right away.

If anyone else has problems, can you please post here to let me know?

Cheers for now,
Darren

I have had slow loading for absolutely ages. You get a message in the bottom left corner saying sift-ads loading or some such. Given that for some reason your ads do not show on my page it is quite odd

Hi there,

Nothing seems untoward with the ad server, so I'm hoping it was just a blip.

Does it seem any better? Do let me know if the slow loading continues into this afternoon.

Cheers,
Darren

:| This is a strange one - we've done some testing round the office and it does seem pretty quick. The forums themselves should be much quicker with the new server and our accelerators.

But I've no idea why some of you are still getting slow loading times. Can I ask if you are running any ad-blocking software at all? Any other ideas anyone?

I'll keep looking!

Just the usual Norton defense and AVG anti Spyware. (just then switching from quick post to advanced it took about 20 seconds.) This is the area that has been the slowest.

Hope that helps :)

It is also painfully ridiculously slow here as well, has been all weekend and again today.

If it is the ads causing a prob...............adblocker here we come..............Ya baby block those slow pesky ads!!!!!
;)

Not sure if the ad blocker will help! Bizarrely coz I do not consciously have ad blocker and can see the ones on the left and the top (most of the time but not just now) but none on the right (but used to see them and have done nothing consciously to change this) and it is always slow (other than strangely today which is not bad at all) and I get the message on bottom left saying waiting for sift-ads. It was so slow yesterday that I almost resolved to stop using the forum

Right turning on adblocker has made no difference at all!!!!

I don't like using adblocker cause me reckons you Sift boys deserve a bitta Tea money;)

This is painful in the MAX!!!

Is it time for a whip round......another 50p for the meter or more coal for the fire???

BTW me made this post a week last Tuesday!!!!

Thanks Keith! :) Lovely tea though (and a Kit Kat - is it a biscuit, or not?)

I'm still no wiser as to why it's slow for you, but I will keep looking.

Please excuse my next obvious question though - are all the other sites you're visiting running much quicker?

Cheers,
Darren

Yes mate checked other sites, cleared the cache thingy as well, me is the worlds most techy builder so it is not my end.

Kit Kats are for girls, be a man eat a choccy Hob Nob!!!!

I'm thinking that it's not at either end - it's in the middle somewhere (in a cloud, according to the graphical representations of t'interweb that I've seen!).

The servers are churning out the stuff fine, and you're getting fast loads on other sites...but then again, other members are seeing UKBF with no problems.

I would have preferred Hob Nobs, and I stand chastised with my Kit Kat choice! But it was nearing its sell by date and only 20p for four fingers. Do I get a let off for canny shopping?

Oh well thanks for looking Darren, I'll stick me head in the sand and hope the problem goes away!!!

We will let you off the Kit Kat, at least you are a real man who drinks Tea, not like some of the ladies round here and their coffee!!

Iklemiracle, you bigged up ya avatar. Nice!

"All the better for seeing you with me pretty;)"

(munching on a curly-whirley dipped in a large proper filter coffe mix) - can i suggest we locate the problem ' using Sherlock Holmes styley deduction............

What have us chaps that are running slow got in common?

My ISP is Sky - whats yours? (could that make a difference to one site and not the others?)

And I thought it was just me :D

Been slow over the weekend, and today is no better. I got tired of waiting for the site to load earlier and just closed the page.

OK Keith - looks like it is either you or me! :) I have been fast all day (unlike a v frustrating day yesterday) and now I am back to snail mode - with that "connecting to ... waiting for ads.sift.co.uk" message. I am on BT

I reckon it is them Sift boys Lisette, too much Tea and dodgy out of date Kit Kats have slowed it all down!!!

Maybe we should hide the kettle, hold it to ransom until things speed up a bit.

Indeed, Keith - and given your willingness to keep off the ad blocker to support their tea fund you think they could afford 'proper' biscuits not out of date Kit Kats!

Agreed, mouldy Kit Kats no more! But plenty more tea, of course.

(...hey, can you get cheap chocolate Hob Nobs?? ;))

Good to know the speed has picked up for some of you. We haven't touched a thing here, so I'm still stumped as to why it's being so random. I'll be office-bound again tomorrow, so would be good to know if anyone's had any more slowdowns.

Bit random, but yes I got cheap Hobnobs. 62p, lost half of them in my hot drink this morning (note did'nt want to upset Keith again by using the c word)

I can see that when you said that you had been working hard all day trying to track down the problems with our slow access to the forum you had a slightly different interpretation of working hard than I did :D hmmm

No major slowness problems at my end with this forum, it waits a second or two before showing the full page, but pretty fast still.

Perhaps turning on gzip compression server side would speed things up for some users?

Things do all seem much better (and faster) today! Thanks (if not for doing anything then just for moral support!!!)
