running a Post office/news agent good idea?

Yesterday, I sold something on ebay. From there, I printed a label with my postage on it. My local post office simply had to provide me with a receipt for posting.

Last week I needed to buy postage for a letter. I simply put the envelope through the printer and paid online for the postage.

This week I have had one cheque. Last week none.

My post office gets less income from me every year out of sheer convenience. I would miss it if it disappeared, but I hate queuing behind some old biddy or the businessman paying in the last 3 months' takings.

Perhaps they should stream their counter so you can see whether there is a queue ?

Your whole rationalle is wrong TBH - you have money and are looking for a bonfire to put it on.

Your wind cleaning idea is viable and sustainable (if you do it right) but you seem to have moved away because of a couple of hurdles.

In another thread you suggested you would get other people to work the long hours.

I would say that you aren't ready to run a business until you are prepared to take on challenges head-on.

In direct answer to your question

If you buy it right and run it well, it will be a good idea.

Get either of those wrong and it will fail

thats an interesting statement. I believe that it should be every business owner's goal to work "outside" of their business rather than inside. I'm more than happy to put less money into my own pocket if I can free myself some time. I can use that time to work on other businesses and I will be the "manager" rather than an employee of my business.

I understand that I might need to work my ass off to get to that stage but I will get there evetually. To me, thats the ultimate freedom and the reason why I want to work for myself.

I don't see anything wrong in buying a business and run it myself. Of course assuming it is a good investment after all the assessments and research done.

Maybe but that is just one of the income streams. I think it is most likely to be a freehold convinence store/fast food (fried chicken/takeaway) I'm buying but obviously not an easy decision.
