Hi all

Has anyone got any tips for staying motivated? I'm finding I'm having trouble procrastinating/getting down to it with work.

i think tony robbins courses are good for this.

you have to address what it is that makes it painful to get on with your business and what is so appealing with what it is you're being distracted by.

Have you thought about why you are running your own business in the first place? How often do you reflect on that reason and is it still valid? When I have off days (and we all get them), I think about what working for somebody else was like and all the reasons why I started my own business. It soon revs me up when I think about my main drivers - freedom to do what I want when I want/ spending more time with the kids etc.

It's easy to feel guilty when you are not being as productive as you perhaps could be, but don't. It's wasted energy. Rather than fester, get out and do something active. I find exercise is great for getting me focused and getting me to think in the right way.

Try various things until you find the one that clicks for you.

The above points from others are good too.

This is something I've struggled with at times (EDIT: A lot) and so I've thought a lot about it.

The issue could be motivation related, or it could be that your task isn't properly defined. Nothing stops me from working faster than knowing I have something to do but not knowing exactly how to go about it.

Send me a PM if you like. This is a really interesting topic for me and maybe I can help.

How much do you want it
How much do you want to be unemployed and getting your food from the foodbank

It's OK to say read this think about this and prepare your mind like a London bloke with a beard and a cup of herbal tea ! But as @estwig says Bills to pay
So no more of this snowflake stuff

Just get out there and go and get it

Like the surfers in North Devon say before they go in the cold sea
"Let's go get some "

I maintain a list of tasks all of which take no longer than 20 minutes. Time box the task and once it is complete, cross it off so you get sense of achievement throughout the day. In between tasks do something unproductive like go to the loo, make coffee, feed the cat etc. but don't break a productive task to do something unproductive.

If you have a large complex task break it into smaller 20-minute chunks. If your work involves emails, social media etc. time box those activities as well so you avoid getting distracted.

Set yourself a goal of 10 tasks per day, this is just over 3-hours of productive work. Gradually increase the task target.

In terms of wider motivation - mine is money. Set yourself a weekly/monthly/annual income target and work towards it.

Life goes through cycles - some up some down. Ups are easy downs have to be worked through.
Procrastination happens to most people at some time with something - accept it and grind through.
Know why you're doing what you are doing. And if the why is not compelling enough it may be time to move on.
