Starting Small but Thinking Big: How Do You Stay Motivated in the Early Days?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently exploring different ways to build a small online income stream while learning more about business in general. One of the biggest challenges I've noticed is staying consistent and motivated when results are still small.

For those of you who have already gone through the early stages of starting a business, what helped you stay focused? Was it setting clear goals, building a routine, or maybe surrounding yourself with the right community?

I'd love to hear your experiences and any advice you can share.

Thanks in advance!

There is so much learning to really get going in a startup, I would suggest spending a few hours a day reading books from uk on how to start and run a business like "

Also take a good look at your product and see if it can be improved or a better description applied to it and how you are advertising it to stand out from competitor's apart from price

Then its just a case of applying self will power plan for the future if it takes off, many if not the majority probably fail due to piss poor planning

Great question and definitely something many of us can relate to. For me, consistency came from breaking big goals into small, daily tasks and tracking progress, even when results were slow. It also helped to connect with like-minded people who were building something too — it keeps the motivation up when you see others pushing forward. Small wins add up fast when you stay consistent.

I think you have to question if running a business is for you if your employing this mindset at this embryonic stage .

This is not for everyone and social media teaches people that it's for anybody

Have to say I tend to agree if you are having trouble focusing or being motivated now when times are tuff you are not going to make it. You need to be totally focused on your objectives / goals making the business the best you possible can and that might mean constant change, constant tweaks.

If the motivation is not there you are going to fall at the first hurdle

There is a lot of rubbish out there about motivation. "Follow your dream", "I am doing something I love and getting paid for it", "think big and start small" etc. It is either there or it is not there, and no amount of reading "how to start a small business" books or listening to Tedx talks is going to provide motivation.

Whilst i agree the books will not give you motivation, They will most likely give you the basics of many things you never considered

I stay motivated by enjoying what I do. Also helps I’ve not got rug rats and am retired.

But as @Mark T Jones often says - find a niche. There are lots of them still not exploited.

Or get an evening job serving pints. Far less stressful.

In the days of gold rush, it was not the prospectors that generally made it rich, it was the guys who sold the shovels who did well. Books and online courses may teach you plenty but doing it will teach you more.
Just start with the basic principle, - how much cash have you got available to invest and how much of that are you prepared to loose?
