Remote Working surge ?

Read this recently.....

On Monday 6th April 2009 it was estimated there could have been 4.5m potentially requests for flexibly working hours which could swamp UK firms.
A piece of legislation comes into effect that is being plugged one of the biggest changes to working practices. The right to request for flexible working extends to all parents with children under 16

How does this work in practice if you are a small business employing only one other person ?

This will only have an effect on businesses that rely on staff being in a particular location. For myself, all the people who work for me work remotely anyway, so this does not pose a challenge in any way.

Nothing really changes except for the aount of people who can ow ask for it,

people can ask, the business needs to look at it and if it works for them then they can offer it, if it doesn't then they don't.

The law only states that they have the right to request it - if it is detrimental to the business (like you, I have only one other person, so it is unworkable for me) then you do not have to grant it; you probably have to write out the reasons in triplicate, give a copy to the employee, a copy for your files, send it to god knows where etc - all the red tape stuff!
