Hi,

I wanted to know whether I can register a LTD company name but not use the name for trading?
Obviously will use the name at some point in the future, just not straight away!

I know it sounds crazy, but I have my reasons behind it...

Sure you can, and lots of people do.

Just make sure no trading really is NO TRADING. Just one sale or purchase and you're trading as far as HMRC are concerned.

Speak to an accountant and they'll get it sorted for you

Yes, you can register a limited company and trade under another name (i.e. ABC Limited trading as 'XYZ')

No, the original question could be understood in two different ways.

Now we have answers to both. What service!

I was going to say - I wasn't sure whether it was a question about dormant company or about trading names :D but as you say...both answered.

Just to add if you do have a dormant company bear in mind you must still complete dormant company accounts and an annual return each year and submit these to Companies House. I see so many people who set up a limited company to 'protect a name' and don't realise accounts are required until the fines start arriving.
