Been badly let down by current hoster, all paid for reviews I can see list them as one of the best. I just wondered if I can get an independent view of peoples experiences?

Situ is they didn't send a renewal notice so domain expired (only by a few days) naturally I found this out once things stopped working. I don't have a site hosted its just the domain and email address. TIA

@Joe E - you seem to be mixing up two different things.

You register a domain with a registrar.

You then pay for hosting. The people hosting the site (or your email) don't need to be the same people with whom you register the domain.

I suggest you renew the domain name with your current host then look for someone to host your email.

I understand that but myself and the hoster have let it lapse only by a few days, if possible I really don't want to go with them anymore so was looking for recommendations especially ones that will send a renewal notice.

Pretty much all of them send a renewal notice.

I’m with hostinguk and not had any problems.

We registered our domain with google initially but they have migrated this side of the business over to https://domains.squarespace.com/

To date, we have not had any service issues, we renewed the domain for 5 years last time just to reduce the amount of admin. Squarespace however does have a setting to auto renew (1 year options) which can be turned on if required.

We forward the traffic via Cloudflare to our own AWS LightSail web server which we set up for a simple website that is using NGINX and the web pages are basic html and css, no scripts or third party templates.

We do not host our own email server as we use gmail.

yes I bought this argument but regretted it

there was a dispute, I forget the details at this distance in time

something to do with renewing the SSL certificate perhaps

the first-line support people, in both cases, were out of their depth

each pointed the finger at the other

learn from my mistake, use the same firm as both registrar and host

The problem maybe wasn’t the separation of registrar and host but your choice of suppliers. Keeping them separated has been regarded as best practice for many years.

The advice re separating registrar and host is golden.

It looks like something else has caused your pain.

Well that's what I thought my current host would do but didn't, anyway thanks for the recommendation I'll check them out.
    Hi Joe

Have you managed to resolve the issues with your domain name, hosting, and email yet?

If not, then we'd love to help you get things resolved and working correctly.

We've been a Nominet Accredited Registrar and UK Web Hosting company for 25 years now, and we're the only ones who provide your entire IT department for free.

We have no investors, no debt, no shareholders, no stupid telephone systems and no headaches.

Our domains are nowhere near what Squarespace charges, and our servers are nowhere near as restricted as Squarespace, 20i, or UK web hosting.

Feel free to drop us a WhatsApp or a phone call (Answered by a real person, not a machine) or drop by our office some time.
