Put a refundable deposit on a business

I put a 1k deposit on a business with the owner which was refundable subject to me seeing the lease. I stupidly put it in to his bank account rather than lodge it with his solicitor. He signed a form saying it was refundable but now he is saying he hasnt got the money to return it. Is there anything i can do to try and get the money back or shall i just accept it that i messed up. cheers

Go after it. Get your proof together showing the transfer, the amount, when it left your account and the account no and sort code it went to.
