Posting Items from the UK to USA

[Rough Outline]

I've recently expanded shipping from just the mainland UK to the EU and I want to start posting to USA/North America.

I'm using Royal Mail and their website says about attaching an invoice to outside of your package, using a plastic "Documents Enclosed" envelope.

I'm asking people who ship from the UK to USA, do you attach invoices to the outside of your packages? If so, what part of the invoice do you show?

A commercial invoice, as we use DHL their system automatically generates it for us to attach. Contains information such as export commodity code, volume, cost of goods, etc.

An invoice attached to the outside, although a good idea is NOT a postal or customs requirement.

If this is going to be difficult/costly for you to do then I would suggest not doing it and just making sure that the CN22 customs sticker is correctly attached with accurate information on it.

We just use a copy of the customer invoice in a document wallet.
Customers have reported very rarely that the wallet or the goods have been opened for the US.

Just quickly to clarify that I do think it is a good idea to attach the invoice to the outside, if at all possible but this is NOT a requirement.

Therefore those online sellers that would find this extra dispatch work or are worried about having to pay a little extra on the packaging for the sellophane "wallet" to hold the invoice should not worry as only the CN22 is required.

No never, we ship to USA using Royal Mail Airsure and just put a Customs CN22 form (sticky label) on the back and fill it in.

Cost isn't a problem the document enclosed wallets cost like 2p a go in quantities of 1000, just wondering if it affected delivery times or if anyone suffered custom delays, anything like that really.

Nope, never have had any sort of delay.

As a previous person commented, you need to put a CN22 label on the parcel and complete this for parcels going to the USA.

I actually sent something to the US yesterday.

Sent by Airsure and Royal mail clerk said CN22 was the only thing required but I guess it would be good to put the invoice on the outside too.
