For those that use POS systems, have you found one that you’re happy with?

We are setting up a trade counter at work and we are looking for a POS system. We already have a merchant account with card terminal so don’t need something like square’s card reader, though I do like the look of their Square Register. I’m also happy to use an IPad based system if that’s the best option.

Primarily, customers order via email, Facebook or over the phone and then come in and collect if they are local. We would like a system where customers can either pay for orders at the time of collection or where orders will be paid for on account. We would also like a way of customers signing for their orders, though that ‘could’ just be signing a copy of their order sheet if there’s no better way.

Our website is based on prestashop at present but have been looking at moving it to shopify. I’ve had a look at shopify POS but would need POS Pro for click and collect but that’s a hefty monthly fee.

Any advice/thoughts would be hugely appreciated.

I am not sure if this tip might be helpful when you're not on woocommerce, but I would set a local pickup delivery option on your website, enable cash on local delivery only, and then use a mobile terminal to accept customer payments in the store, none of this requires a monthly subscription on woocommerce.

What do you use for inventory management - it may be your supplier for that has a POS addon/partner which would make things easy - it may not, but worth a few mins looking
We don’t use any inventory management software as our products are made to order. We have a very limited number of ‘raw materials’ so it’s easy enough to keep an eye on stock levels.

We do have certain products that are pre-made but they aren’t typically the products customers would collect from us. For those we use a system called Veeqo as it handles our stock levels on eBay/etsy/amazon as well as our order picking.
