Plus size range - what to call it?

I think i've been pretty clear that I blame the parents for making their children fat and that I think making larger clothes readily available goes some way to encouraging this behaviour as acceptable which it really isn't.

.

Your intentions are good but it is a fact that the non availability of plus size kids clothing over the last ten years has not halted the rise in childhood obesity.

The answer lies in education of both parents and children. I don't remember the name of the programme but on TV they took some overweight teenagers to see some hospital patients who had some nasty diabetes consequences such as gangrene and amputated limbs and that seemed to have some effect on them.

A baby is more likely to be obese if its parents are obese.
This of course leads into childhood.

Blame for lack of exercise and/or poor diet cannot be laid at the door of the child, so at least let them wear some clothes that aren't ill-fitting and will flatter their size rather than leave them open to ridicule and bullying from their peers(and elders) often through no fault of their own.

For what it's worth, I would probably not call it anything like Plus Size, Comfort Fit, Cuddly Clothes but go for a whole branding experience and just choose a catchy funky name such as Torrid, Swak Designs and Igigi have done for the womans market.

Hi

Didn't think Cuddly was that bad a world actually, but to me any baby is cute and Cuddly, however the 'Plus' word would nicely explain to a customer that it's a larger size in terms of clothing...

'Cuddly Plus' Range or shortened to 'Cuddly +' Range Maybe?

Wil

I like that, it's sensitive and to the point...
May actually work

I manufacture childrens clothing for a couple of designers and have recently develpoed my own childrens line.
Myself and 1 other designer use Winifred Aldrich standard metric body measurements these start at
2 years = chest 54cm waist 53cm
3 years = chest 55cm waist 54cm
4 years = chest 57cm waist 55cm etc. etc.
At 8 years they increase by 3cm increments on the chest but continue to increase by only 1cm on the waist.

Now let me tell you neither of my children ever had these measurements at those ages. My daughter weighed 9lb 3oz at birth and my son born 2 months prem weighed in at 7lb !
They were both the biggest in their class at primary school . My son is now 18 and to put it bluntly is built like a " brick out house !!" He played rugby for the school until he dislocated his knee, my daughter at 25 is 5'2" and 10 stone, she's been that weight and height since she was 11.
Just like adults, kids come all shapes and sizes. If it wasn't for odd shaped people I would never have had 3 alteration shops. The perfect size 12 does not exist !
According to Winifred I should be a size 22 yet I fit into M&S 16 trousers and 18 tops. Body shapes have changed over the years. I used to love dressing up in my mams wedding dress when I was 8, I could just squeeze into the 22" waist dress !!!

Getting back to the business in hand, If your looking for a UK based manufacturer who can design and pattern grade to your requirements then please get in touch I'm sure I could help

You think it's easy to be fat, that somehow people prefer to be that way and if they really wanted they could just be thin?

Eat less and eat the right food and do some excercise, it's not rocket science, and let's face it, in this day and age finding the right information on the subject has never been easier.

Years ago people weren't so fat. Do you really think people have got more lazy and seek out food to eat more or that the high calorie easy food available to them and an increase in car transport contributes? It's hard to say no 20 times a day to a constant parade of yummy food when you'd prefer to say yes I will eat that.

Sorry, don't agree with that at all. Yes i do believe people have got more lazy, yes i also believe they take the easy option in preparing and buying food rather then do what they should. the number of fast food outlets alone proves people will and do take the easy option. If there wasn't the demand they wouldn't stay in business. It's dead easy to say no, no one forces you to eat junk in ever bigger portions

It's not the kids' fault they are overweight and calling them vicious names is hardly going to do anything for their self esteem. It's hard enough for them to take part without making it another chance for ridicule. By having a go at them you start to segregate the overweight from the fit like two classes of citizens.

In part I'll agree on this one, it is the parents fault for giving in and not teaching thier kids and setting an example.

I do however think you're missing the point a bit. The way I'm reading most of the posts so far is people wanting to give the clothing range a name that'll perhaps make the parants think a bit more about what they're allowing their kids to become rather than having a pop at the kids themselves.
