PC Memory Management Issue...

Wondering if you're able to help!

Been given a PC from a friend to fix who was having problems with the computer constantly crashing. The computer was on XP at the time and kept just freezing on us and then crashing. I done a memory check as advised by Windows which came back with no errors.

The system has 2 x 1GB RAM cards, so I decided to keep one of them in and take one card out which worked fine and then as soon as I put the other RAM card into the system it crashed. So I concluded that the RAM chip was faulty and replaced one of them. The RAM card arrived so I placed that in and it crashed again but I noticed when I took the old RAM it was working fine so to solve everything we bought another RAM Chip meaning we have two brand new RAM chips which are the same spec as the old ones.

Everything seemed fine but we were still getting some Windows problems so my friend decided he'd like to go up to Windows 7 which upgraded to. I dropped the computer off at my friends and then a couple of days later he says it's crashed again.

I've taken the computer off him once again and it's now getting the BSOD Memory Management error message.

I'm lost what else I can do... I've tried replacing the RAM, doing Windows RAM check and have reinstalled the operating system and nothing as resolved the issue. Given the system a good clean to get rid of any dust/dirt but nothing, it's lasting about 10-20mins then crashing on me regardless of what RAM chip is in the system.

Help would be much appreciated!!

Could be heat issues(CPU thermal paste failing) or even the PSU.

Is it freezing and needs resetting or giving the Blue Screen if Death, check the event viewer while the PC is running and post any errors here.

The other thing I noticed is that the PC is really loud on startup sometimes.

Make sure that the chipset drivers are updated for the motherboard, could well be the memory controller on the board giving the issue.

Check that the there isn't a cable or something touching any of the fans and making the noise and slowing the fan down causing overheating, its heat then you can try a tool like speccy to show the temps.

Does your mobo allow you to set the voltage and frequency? It may be assigning the wrong settings, double check the values and what your ram should be.

When I bought my DDR2 800mhz ram a while back the system was freezing randomly so I underclocked the RAM to 667mhz and it has worked fine since.

Thanks for the advice again.

Not had the option to try another PSU/Thermal paste, because I've got neither available at the moment.

I'm sure all the drivers are up to date, but I'll go through it tonight and double check everything.

Not sure about the voltage/frequency but I'll have a good look again.
