I'm writing an essay about marketing online of a company. I'm also a beginner. This is the first time I work in the marketing department. I'm confused right now. What is outbound and inbound marketing? What things that I must analysis for marketing online activities of a company? Please help me!!!! Thank in advance.

Inbound marketing is an approach focused on attracting customers through content and interactions that are relevant and helpful. With inbound marketing, potential customers find you through channels like blogs, search engines, and social media.

Outbound marketing on the other hand starts with some basic knowledge of your target audience and builds programs to educate those very specific prospects about your products and services in a meaningful way. Outbound marketing typically is accomplished using the more traditional ways such as direct mail, telemarketing, email marketing and events.

Outbound marketing is where your customers find you through more traditional ways of marketing such as TV, Radio, Direct mail etc. This can be seen as interruption based marketing and is a lot more intrusive than inbound marketing.

Inbound marketing is the opposite, this can be seen as permission based marketing. This can be where you share insights with people looking for a specific service or product that you provide. This can be through Social media, blogs etc.

For more marketing online activities, I would suggest doing a bit of research on SEO/ online marketing strategies. A useful tool out there to monitor a website for free is Google Analytics, this can provide a lot of helpful information for a company to monitor their traffic, paid search, target audience etc.

Sign up for the free Hubspot inbound university courses so you get the basics. Then pay the man at FreshBananas and take his course (which is made for small business owners and marketers) built around what's proven to work in the UK.

It'll save you a ton of typing here or on Google and help avoid any of the guilt associated with being new and afraid to ask questions.

Inbound marketing is an online marketing strategy that combines the use website content (articles, blog posts, video, charts, etc.) with SEO and social media to bring visitors to your website and then to convert those visitors into leads.

Outbound marketing is more straightforward. It uses direct mail, email or the phone to reach out to a targeted list of prospects to begin a sales conversation. When these prospects respond or show an interest in what you sell, they become leads.

Inbound is much more than picking the low hanging fruit of sales ready leads.

It's also about getting found when people are gaining initial awareness, comparing options, investigating/researching. Then, helping them move through the funnel as they move closer to being sales-ready leads.

Before writing an essay about online marketing you need the basics and the experience to become creative in the field. So if you are new, take the course, read, learn, and apply.

Regurgitating the most common of common wisdom on a subject is doing a thing to contribute to your knowledge, the combined knowledge of the universe or your development as a marketer.

If you're in secondary school, read a few books/papers and coalesce the information, making some insightful comparisons.

If you're in university, then do your own research following on from what you learned in secondary.

My comment was tongue in cheek, however wikipedia would be good to give you a basic understanding of the topic, and start you off in the right direction.

Inbound = organic seo, content marketing, PPC - things where people are already looking for something, and you pull them into the site by attracting them via content, on-page optimisation and similar techniques

Outbound = interruptive marketing, where you reach out to people who aren't actively seeking you, such as with an email, telephone call, direct mail
