New venture need advice on Website

I am looking for some information and help and I'm sure you clever clogs in this forums will be able to help me.

Right, I have designed a business plan and bought a domain 'local.....(.co.uk) It is going to be a website selling advertising space and offering free editorial for companies to draw in potential customers...

However! I would love to find out if there was any software out there (reasonable prices!) Or if any of you know of any good site developers that will do it at a great price.

What is key to the website is that I will aim to achieve a great mass of clients who wish to advertise their businesses on my website across the whole of the UK so I will need a search bar similar to a lot of ecommerce sharks... Such as Ebay, Autotraders etc. You know area>Miles from area>Characteristics...

Could I get a local company to make the website or should I go for a bigger more commercialised company?

I do not mind waiting for quotes as I will need to build a client database first and get bookings flowing!

So anyway please if you have any information, how much would a site cost with the targeted search bar!?

Sorry to burst your bubble but this has been tried many many times and rarely succeed.

There is no call for this type of site anymore. People just use Google and search for 'X in town'.

However is you really want to develop this sort of site you are going to need deep deep pockets. The site could well cost your thousands and marketing a lot more than that.

Highly experienced website designer and affordable, she comes highly recommended. Anything technical? She's brilliant. A lot of marketing experts use her around the world. She's based in South Africa.

Incidentally I agree with the chap above. You'll need to refine your USP if you want to make a successful go of this asking yourself first, "What are business owners really looking for and in need of right now?

Where is the money right now?

Where is the demand for the solutions I can provide?"

Answer these questions before you leap into this without thinking it through thoroughly first.

On the face of it you aren't looking for anything complex so a properly set up smaller developer can probably deliver what you are looking for

The big questions of course are what is your budget and - most of all - how are you going to drive it?
