Hi All,

I have an interest in solar panels and the whole green energy movement. So much so I'm looking for a partner for a new solar panel business.

Initially in the Surrey area, I'll create the brand, build the online presence and be a hands-on business partner. Anyone interested on UKBF or can anyone give me any pointers on where to find interested parties.

Regards, Jim.

No I dont have the microgeneration scheme certificate, its something for the future. My background is building industry, I'm an experienced franchisor and my intention is to build the brand and the web presence.

My idea is the partner will have this and I will gain my experience through my partner, on the job.

No I dont have the certificate but agree its required. This would be supplied by the partner. My job would be to build the brand, sales and market the business and gain valuable on-the-job training.

Hi Jim....I think you will have to do it yourself or at least know someone who is a sparky and has gone through the MCS scheme.

I had the fortune to be mates with someone who had gone through the MCS accreditation.

Bear in mind though, many firms use just normal blokes to fit the arrays and then get the sparks to commision it, so it may be possible.

Cheers Will

Morning Will,

Exactly what I'm looking for, good luck to you!

I'd rather have a MCS partner and employ people to follow set company installations procedures rather than have anybody install the arrays. Maybe you can pm me your website or any details that you've found that could help?

I've heard of installs being done and a spark compelting but long-term that doesn't work. I want to invest in building a brand here, we have a great name which I think can be built on.

Regards,

Jim.

FIT is clearly what makes it work for the consumer, however in these economic climes I would have liked to have seen 5 year reviews.

I still dont see this will curtail the take-up of what is a solid technology.

Thanks for the link.

(Any potential partners out there??) :)

Hi Jim

I assume your business model will follow the likes of isis-solar(.com)?
You will give supply and install for free to the customer but collect the FIT, in which case you'll need to play catch up and hire a MCS guy to rubber stamp numerous installations.

Having said that I'm currently planning a green business that plans to supply green services so like the sound of it all.

I dont think so, the whole free industry is a bit of a shabby, people are financially far better off if they can afford to pay.

We might offer it to people who cant afford it but it wont be the main drive of the business.

Those on lower incomes do not deserve cheaper electric bills? If you get to keep the income from the FIT,what would that be in profit for you?

I was more than happy to let a company install FREE solar panels on my roof and collect the FIT. Not sure on the installation prices currently ~£10k? but the FIT is worth at least double the installation price.

I assumed these companies are rushing to get as many people (south facing roofs) to sign up to the gov scheme backed for the next 25years. I'd sign people up and aim to sit back and collect the money over the long term.
If solar effiency improves then charge them to upgrade.

Are you suggesting that once a certificate is isssued the Government of the day will honour it for the full term? ie 25 years?

"Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) are financial support measures introduced by the government to increase the uptake of small-scale renewable generation (<5MWe) and help deliver the UK’s 2020 renewable energy targets. The mechanism provides renewable generators with a 20 year (or 25 years for Solar PV) guaranteed per unit support payments (p/kWh) for electricity generation."

"Generators will continue to receive the same tariff rate for the 20 year period (25 years for Solar PV) as they did upon installation."

From the DECC site.

Quote

Spending Review 2010

The Spending Review[External link] of 20 October 2010 announced that FITs will be reviewed in 2012, unless higher than expected deployment requires an early review. The Government has identified scope to cut FIT costs by 10 per cent, to be achieved as part of its next review.

End quote.

So at least 10% reduction in 2012? Possibly before depending on up-take.

Interested to see what people think about the mid-long term prospects of this sector will be.

Current margins for installers are high, around 60% I believe and I understand that one hurdle at the moment is actually getting hold of enough panels. Demand is increasing in the UK (rent-a-roof schemes will definately help) and lets face it, domestic energy bills are only going to increase.

But on the 'supply' side there's an incredible explosion of new installers. Every home insulating company I know of recognises that domestic insulation has a limited life and so they're moving into solar. Consumers will quite quickly have a number of options when it comes to a supplier, so margins will drop very quickly and PV installation should get more affordable for many.

The only problem in taking the free pv
rent your roof scheme is, that you are normaly
tied in to a long lease scheme typicly
17 to 25 years, i currently market solar energy
products and at the moment 90% of people
are interested in pv and if they bank with Santandare
the bank offer a very good loan rate for solar

Solar Man what is the deal with Santander?

We currently quote 7.2% over 10 years with Tesco as they accept Solar Panels as a home improvement.

Is the Santander deal better than this?

Jim.

Nothing wrong with Free Solar! Not all people can afford the outlay and why should they have no access to free energy? We specialise in Social Housing and the Free Solar model helps to increase Tenant Satisfaction, attacks Fuel Poverty for the very poorest in the UK and targets the Carbon Footprint for the RSL. All good reasons why the 'shabby' Free market helps people...!

We have installed over 30K properties in the UK so far 'Free' and another 3K Commercial roofs to add to this (some also free) things are going well with lots and lots of happy Customers. Good luck with the 'Brand'!

Hello to all,

We are a provider of free solar leads and would like to offer our service to companies wishing to purchase quality leads.

Our leads are generated covering the necessary criteria and backed up by our quality control team ensuring that all of our leads are as described.

We charge £30 for our leads and feel that this is a very fair price given the quality and extra cost of QC.

If you do with to discuss our service further of have any current lead requirements, please contact Ryan on 01202 855846.
