hi folks

Working my way improvements in my website and wondered about page titles when trying to rank for local areas.
Eg Plumber Leicester, Plumber Coventry etc. Is this ok Seo wise or should the titles be more different. ( hope that makes sense lol )

Are you a plumber in Coventry? Is the address on the site in Coventry? Are all the testimonials from clients in Coventry? Do you have Coventry telephone number? In other words, does everything on the site shout out to Google that you are a Plumber whose main area of operations is Coventry?

Now ask the same questions about your Leicester plumbing business.

Yes, definitely, if aiming at local markets, you should add your location [Coventry, Leicester etc.] with every title, meta description you create and within the website content. Research the keywords first though to know what people are typing into Google when searching for a service like yours.

I would better recommend to go through the following points and then plan for Local SEO of your website.

Have an address in the town or city that you’re targeting
Create and verify your Google+ Local page
Remove duplicate Google+ Local pages
Fully complete your Google+ Local page
Decide what page of your website to list on your Google+ local page
Choose appropriate categories on your Google+ Local page
Use a local phone number
Be consistent with your business’s name, address and phone number
Make it easy for people to contact and/or find you
Add a map of your business’s location to your websiteInclude your location and keyword on your website landing page
Create a separate page on your website for each location that you want to target
Create a separate page on your website for each product/service that you offer
Write unique content for every page of your website
Ensure your website looks good and is usable on multiple devices and screen resolutions
Get your business listed on 3rd party websites
Get ratings and reviews on your Google+ Local page and on 3rd party websites
Build links to your Google+ Local page and website
Keep your Google+ Local page active

If you add a city or town then its less generic and easier from an SEO point of view as the competition is reduced. From a customers point of view, they might be annoyed if they type 'Plumber Leicester' and check your address and you're not in Leicester. What areas are the bulk of your work? Would it be better to put 'your local plumber covering Leicester, Coventry and so on..' Then you include your keywords clearly in the titles & content?

    Hello Stan,

Plumber Coventry would be just fine, I wouldn't personally recommend trying to spread yourself too thin and going for too many areas as one website - unless you have 2 seperate physical locations?

If Google gets indications that you're in Coventry, and then also indications that you're in Leicester, you're not likely to rank well for either - basically Google will be less likely to trust your listings because they're inconsistent.

Other than that, I agree with most of what Bart Simpson says :)

All good advice but Stan hasn't been back since he posted I suspect he will never see all the suggestions.

Eg Plumber Leicester, Plumber Coventry etc. Is this ok

don't expect much sales when keywords you using have been copied by every plumber in the uk :D How many plumbers in uk? maybe 20k..... how can everyone rank good enough, not enough room for 20k plumbers on first 50 pages in search engines, and that is fact.

Seos only agree cos their copying each others strategies, you learn this after years on the web talking to these bozos. Using same keywords as everyone else is easy way to make money from the freelancer seo agent's point of view, but no good for paying customers who need to be apart from competitors.

The longer tail the keyword, the less popular it must be and less chance of being searched, for engine users will input the easiest keywords like 'plumber' - except you wont ever rank for that one cos someone else pays 50k for it each year.
