Hi there

My shop is currently with Just Eat.

They charge you around 11% of the total bill of the order they put through.

Also when signing up they charge you a 1 off fee for there just eat machine and to sign up to there services. This is in the region of around £500.

Personally i would recommend using it because it is UK's if not the worlds leading online ordering system and will instantly put you on google top list amongst others in your area. We have used them over a 4 years and do get a few orders a week from it especially when they discount the customers at their costs!

Hope that helps.

By the way i am in no way affiliated or work for Just Eat for that matter! i wrote kind of the same thing in another thread about just eat a few months back :)

Hi there - I run a takeaway company that does not charge commission but we don't do online ordering (yet) and have done some research on the online ordering companies. they have a range of deals and usually charge between 8-12% per order to the owners PLUS VAT!. The reps are hardcore sales people and the company JE just had a large venture capital investment.

Many takeaway owners have gone bankrupt using JE, Hungry Belly, Hungry House etc or get very little return on investment so I would think carefully about going down this route. You might be better using us for free or using facebook and twitter or even better get your own website built.

Good Luck!:)

i agree with having own website but having a third party website such as Just Eat gives you so much more footfall as opposed to your own website.

In addition reviews that are given through Just Eat gives the customers the impressions that they are unbiased as opposed to your own website therefore giving them more confidence with ordering via Just Eat.

But should Just Eat do increase there commission we will think twice about using Just Eat for our shop.

Hey Guys,

We are foodfindr, due to launch in June 2012.. we offer solutions to receiving orders online via your own website/mobile app/mobile site.

The benefits of this route are vast compared to other Online takeaway platforms as follows:

No upfront cost - recent quotes suggest upwards of £1000 per reciept machine supplied by other online takeaway platforms.

Paid Directly - customers of other online takeaway platforms wait each month to recieve a cheque minus deductions however with foodfindr the money is paid at the time of the order direct to you via a merchant account (accessed only by you).

No commission - We dont take commission, we believe the takeaways owners margins are squeezed enough without taking 15% commission plus VAT (latest figures).

Direct Orders - Track where your orders are coming from, less risk of orders going wrong, capture information and utilise for local marketing (we help with this).

Go Mobile - You will have a fully functional mobile app/site where people can order direct from iPhone or Android App (becoming very popular).

Your own destination - rather than being found purely amongst other competitors have your own identity (own website domain) for people to visit and get to know your brand.

Offers - Promote all of your offers regardless of value to your customer lists.

NO ADD ON COSTS - We have now identified clients are being charged to update menus/prices on other online takeaway platforms, besides this it is also not possible to do this yourself.. you must wait for a rep to get round to this minor task.

Surely this must be MEGA expensive for your own website, app, back end system and free feature on the foodfindr directory???

Only £40 per month - £0 upfront cost
(only cost of website domain purchase, typically around £5.99)

Sound good? find us on twitter :foodfindrUK to register your interest and ask any questions here!

Thanks

Lewis

I wouldnt say your idea is better than Just Eat.

Just Eat is profitable for companies, there are many people who use it frequently, i probably spend 2k a year on the site :D

Just Eat have a massive marketing budget, and get lots and lots of traffic.

Your idea to impliment an app on a website is no compairson to me. I feel much safer entering my details on a trusted site than some cheap bodged website with an app.

And if i was a takeaway owner i would rather spend 500 quid on the machine to take orders than have to spend on a website and promotion. The promotion would be a vast sum compared to the just eat machine.

Your offer of a free feature on foodfindr directory is pretty worthless to anyone right now, your site isn't even live and no one has ever heard of you.

Hi, thanks for the post.

We would agree that our idea isnt "better" but offers other advantages to just-eat not least having an internet presence of your own as a takeaway outlet.

Again agree, In fact I use it myself as its the best of the crop currently available.

Of course they do.. they have been around since the early 2000's and have had major backing from various investors and rightly so... however there are restrictions to there model from a consumer point of view due to the fact it is commission based.

Such as:

Direct offers from the takeaway - which you may only find in store only.

Loyalty discounts/bonuses - some people eat at certain places regularly and accrue discounts, this would be possible by going direct.

On the spot offers - takeaway decides to offer something as a flash deal to entice customers that day/night.

Those are just a few examples of benefits to the consumer with plenty more to come.

It is a little presumtious to assume our websites will be bodged or unsafe in some way, the technology is cutting edge and designed built in the technology capital of the world, silicon valley. This will soon be clear when the first websites are released in the near future.

Said machine now costs over £1000 of upfront investment, combine this with commission of 15% plus VAT plus Fees and the efforts to recoup this become clear. I would suspect this will continue to rise.

In terms of promotion it will take minor tweaking on the takeaways part to inform people that you can now order direct via their website/app which can be done via usual methods of leafleting and email campaigns, which is actually very low cost.

I agree the listing is worthless while our website is being finalised however our post is merely a prelude of what we offer and what is to come and when live will add value for people trying to find the other 30,000 plus takeaways which cannot be found on Just-eat or anywhere else (when signed up to foodfindr).

We are proud of the brand we have created and given time (like the competition) our brand/services will be widely used by takeaways and consumers will enjoy the benefits well over and above other options available.

Thanks for posting back.

OurTakeawayMenu

Most customers just want to see your menu online and then order in the usual way by phone or in person. A website from OurTakeawayMenu co uk will put your menu on the 1st page of google, bing, yahoo and all the major search engine's and for a fraction of the cost.

As a consumer Just Eat is great ! you can build up some loyalty points which you can spend on grub!

I very rarely carry cash to be honest (most places take card), its easier now with just eat as I dont need cash in the house.

Jonny dogs - You have put that some companies have gone under due to just eat - How can this be?
I cant comment on the Margins

Hi folks I´m in the restaurant business, I have seen a new solution which is called Eat Online which seems to be even faster and eaiser than others, have you seen it?

I'm not so sure you're in the restaurant business (at least not working in one) if you're using words like 'solution'.

You're not related to this Steve Tamer are you? www.4networking.biz/Members/Details/78052. Looks like he's 'in the restaurant business' too!

Just Eat seem to be growing massively both in Ireland and the UK. They've recently had a massive Outdoor Advertising Campaign and their Brand has grown hugely because of it. I havent used them allot as not many restaurants / take-aways have sign up in our area but it will be great when they do!

I know a few restaurants that use this website www dot pass my food dot com if you sign up as a restaurant it gives you a free year trial and also tells you the other packages you can buy.

They don’t charge any commission ether as I own a restaurant and it has given us more customers and is much cheaper than the others.

Wow! And you’re so impressed that you dug up a 6 year old thread to tell us about it!

As a consumer I do not like just-eat. It charges unnecessary fees which i can avoid by calling the takeaway direcrly. In practice i think that 90% of the people order from very few takeaways on a regular basis so if those takeaways have an online ordering facility then that's ideal. Also just-eat's notifications are often delayed, mistaken and the customer service I've never been happy about. I prefer to order from takeaways directly.

But to answer your question about costs: the commission % seems to vary amongst restaurants but ranges from 9%-15% from what I've seen. There is a setup fee which also seems to range between £500-750. I think either pricing changes through time or just-eat's sales people charge whatever they want.

As for claims that your restaurant appears higher on google after joining just-eat..that's BS... just-eat's page shows there. Not the restaurant's website. It's one more way for them to steal business which could be otherwise be coming to you directly. This is why often they buy domain names which contain your name, to steal business away from you. Unethical behaviour in my view.

    I hope the above help.
