To put a different slant on this, consider Michael Gerber's mantra (author of 'E-Myth Revisited'): Work on your business not in it, otherwise you'll find you don't have a business but a job. A one-person IT shop is a job, not a business. If you believe the personalised approach is the way to go, that's fine. Just don't view yourself as the 'technician' doing the job, otherwise you'll never be able to escape from it.

Steve, Your a legend. That's one thing that I constantly try and battle with.

I like to make myself feel like I have a business and that I'm not really a self employed guy doing a Job FOR my business.

Hopefully my new venture won't have such a set-up, so already feels more like a business!

I can't believe I have missed this thread. I have earnt £110 this week. I am skint, the bank is going to start going mad at me, I can't afford to get any leaflets printed so I am printing my own, I am getting very little work from them but even a £20 job is a god send at the moment.

I don't know what has happened, I am still have a lot of repeat work and regular customers so I don't think it is anything I am doing wrong.

I don't think it is a dying trade, yes PC repairs itself is dying but the support certainly is not. Spyware is what seems to keep me going at the moment.

I think the main reason most businesses stop earning, is taking your eye off the ball and not doing your marketing on a contineous basis. You can't and must not wait for a dull moment to do it, you must set aside time to do it constantly so that work keeps rolling in on a constant basis.
