How to launch website with a bang?

Hi there,

I'm looking for tips on how to launch a website providing a service to the public.

So far we have ideas such as:

- coming soon page (collect emails and such)
- send our press releases 2 days before launch day
- email whole list on launch day
- send out our Facebook posts on launch day - tell everyone about it.
- continue with our marketing plan. (which is more of a continuous plan, not a one day launch plan).

Thanks!

Coming Soon can work, but we often try and include a little more then just that to keep the interest up like snippets of information, sign up forms, social links etc

For the real bang I suppose its a question of constant reminders via social, say lie 5 days to go, 4 days to go etc then it generates a real buzz and build up

I would send a couple of press releases, one some time before launch and an "almost there" press release

If you have emails lists again, it would be worth just maybe sending a couple of teasers in order to generate the interest..

Thanks for this great reply - we're planning to have a countdown coming soon page with signup form, small images from the website and snippets of important information, we'll link it to our social accounts too, great idea!

We have a very solid marketing plan for after we launch, but we're now working on pre-launch and launch plans.

Also, thanks for the incentive idea, we'll try this too.

Regards.

Coming soon page is like asking someone to sit in the waiting room 'the doctor will see you soon'.
You said 'with a bang' in this case it totally depends on the product/ service but you'll need to think bigger - national TV, scandal, huge prizes etc.
Essentially it comes down to chucking a fair bit of cash at a quality PR company.

Coming soon only really works reliably where the product is one that has incredibly strong USPs, really genuine ones. Otherwise you're asking people to hang on and keep waiting for days on end for something they can viably get from your competitors sooner.

Launch it quietly. Use adwords and other marketing to test the effectiveness of the site (ie: does it actually generate any leads). Once you are sure that the site is up to scratch then tell everybody about it.

The site will need all sorts of changes and adjustments. Do not expect it to be firing on all cylinders from day one. Use as many of the testing services as you can to gauge opinion and make sure the designer/developer is stood by to make the necessary changes.

However, good luck weith the launch. Make you keep up updated on how it is going.

100% agree with fisicx's advice above. This is the approach we follow for our own projects and what we recommend to our clients/users.

Matt Cutts, of Google also offers some good advice about coming soon/ holding pages. He's recommends putting a few paragraphs of text on your coming soon page to ensure Google algorithm can differentiate your domain from the millions of other generic holding pages. Speeding up the indexing of your site when it goes live.

Should I keep a domain parked without content before I launch the website?

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thats the key question, the rest will depend on that.

Agree that getting people to visit the site only to be greeted with a coming soon message isn't a great idea. Expecting people to file the link away and come back after launch is rather optimistic.

To use an example when the recent PPC Elections were coming there was a leaflet sent out with a link to the Governments site to find out more on your candidate. The leaflet was sent out before the information was on the site so all you got was a check back in two weeks to read candidate information message, by then the leaflet was long lost and the website wasn't easy to find on Google. So no second visit.

Hello,

Thanks for your thoughts. We need to represent all our services via a website if we tend to launch a website that offers services to people or clients. Firstly, look into the authenticity of the website and uniqueness of its contents to avoid getting banned by Google. It is efficient to use a catchy style to craft all your contents along with visual additions to attract potential customers.

Thanks......
