Typical valuation models are 3 x net profit for example.
.

I would suggest that valuation models vary from sector to sector and that the OP should seek more advice from a business transfer agent (one of which has replied here).really? In our industry it`s 0.9 to 1.3 times nett maximum.
OP, I'm not sure why you have been greeted with such negativity and hostility by some people here? :|

If you have built up a powerful brand in the local marketplace and demonstrate consistent profitability, repeat or contracted business along with low fixed costs then there will be a market for your business.

This 'business' makes me a reasonable living (about £100K a year profit) but it is not a business.
What planet do you live on?
A reasonable living is probably something between 15-20k. You earn about 25k less than the prime minister!
Congrats though on building up a business that makes such a large profit!!
also I can make much more money by selling something than providing a service. you can never get rich by providing a service
Duncan Bannatyne states 3 x net profit, Bytestart suggests 5-10 times earnings, Daltons Business says "Business Transfer agents, Accountants and Chartered Surveyors can all provide you with business valuations".
I have tought of setting up such business for over a year because I understand a lot about cars and am very good at managing people. What stopped me however is the expense of having cars on the road that stupid snobs vomit in...
you can never get rich by providing a service
everything I know I read in a book ....................priceless.
Yes,because lots of snobs will be vomiting in your car on the way to meetings or airport drop offs :|
I was going to prove you horribly wrong by posting a few links to multi millionaires who'd disagree, but not worth wasting time on someone going to make such silly statements really.
Saxondale, maybe you are best qualified to advise the original poster?
show me 1 billionaire that became billionaire by providing a service... of course there will be millionaires, million pounds is nothing if you have been a banker or a solicitor for 30 years or whatever.

Warren Buffett is a multi-multi-billionaire through providing investment services to the shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway.
Does he count???
that not providing services.
He provides a service to the shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway, no???

he owns Bershire Hathaway, no???
A percentage of it, yes. As does Charlie Munger. Both of whom provide investment services to the shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway. Both are billionaires.

So a million pounds is "nothing", but to prove you wrong I need to find people who are worth 1000 times that to qualify?
You're a waste of bandwidth, why are you even posting here...
why are YOU posting here? I have run 3 businesses and am about to get another one going but never seen what business YOU run.
I would dispute that. I tried to place an order for £100,000 worth of your chocolate - there's no order form on your website, the mobile number doesnt work - oh, and Cadbury's are well annoyed with your Libel and you should be hearing from them soon.
No doubt you have a huge legal team and unlimited funds to fight them off.
But you lost £100,000 of my business.
I ended up going to Cadburys in the end![]()

I dont care about Cadbury let them come after me. and get back on topic. THe guy's business is worth around £15 000K based on my calculations
Interesting theory, so anyone who is effectively a '1 man band' doesn't run a business?
I'm sure their are plenty who would disagree.

ok but... only in the financial services you can make a billion no other type of service.
How about lawyers, solicitors ect?
