How many coffees do you have a working day?

I don't drink coffee because I hate the stuff but have 2-3 mugs of tea a day and the rest of the time I drink orange, lemon and pineapple squash. Try cutting down and see what symptoms you get - too many caffeine withdrawal symptoms = too much coffee.

I'm strange (in this day and age) in that I dont do coffee/tea ever.

If I'm going to have a drink, it's evian, or Coke Zero (not for the caffine, just more for the taste!)

I was always very strongly minded against the 'coffee fix', seeing colleagues and mates who couldnt function in the mornings without their caffeine injection.. made me decide that, if I never got used to having it, I could never need it, thus I just avoided it ;)

Always wondered,

those of you who drink tea and coffee..

do you get the same 'wake up' from the Tea..

How does it compare in terms of caffeine to coffee? (talking regular coffee not macchiato and espressos etc .. although would love to see an authorative league table :))

As a generalisation tea contains more caffeine than coffee. And the 'strong' coffee in terms of taste (ie french/italian roast), contain less caffeine than the milder blends.

To answer the OP, I have a cup of coffee with breakfast, and then maybe 2 or 3 at work, depending upon how cold it is. Come warmer weather I drink water throughout the day.

Tea - I wouldn't use it to water the plants. Hmm, lets put some water in with some dead leaves. Yum.

I'd always heard that tea did, but was never sure if they means real indian tea leaves tea from a tea pot (ie not pg tips bags) or if it really was PG tips v's Maxwell House (or w.h.atever brand)

I wonder how Tea/Coffee compares to Coke Zero too :)

I drink both, just because each delivers its own cafeine rush, in its own unique way.

I've had 2 cups of coffee so far, but will probably have another 2 cups later, then a cup of tea and finish with another cup of tea after dinner.- Something around that on an average day.

The problem with tea, is that having tasted the most amazing tea in India, it is almost impossible to find anything close to being as delicious, where as good coffee is easy to come by.

I'll have about 2 decaf coffee's a day. Caffeine causes all sorts of problems including increased levels of anxiety, people that are having too much coffee/tea should trying cutting back and seeing if they feel any different. :)

Coffee or tea?

No brainer.. Tea wins every time.

and of course.. best tea is from India..

One has to learn how to make it properly too.. nothing wishy washy.:)

( I drink about 8 mugs of tea a day... and of course NO coffee)

I have about 5 cups of coffee a day, so I think 4-5 a day is fine. :p

I used to work with a chap who once counted his daily coffees - had 23  that day! It's a wonder he ever slept. Not sure if he would have had some many if the vending machine wasn't on free vend all day, every day though.

numbers of tea a day... (im sure i posted this somewhere before)

5-10 when at home (depends on the jobs im doing) if out catering it drops to 2-3 purely due to the heat, if on a scout weekend its one a day, from 7am till bed its never empty

coffee... thats horried its the seed from a rotten berry.... that or some leaves... leaves easy!

But aren't the chemicals used to remove the caffeine from coffee more harmful than the caffeine itself? I remember hearing that but could of course be wrong!

I'm one of the those strange (and rare) people that cannot stand tea, I have probably had about 3 cups of tea in my 40 year life. Coffee, I love, only decent stuff though, not instant and probably have 5-6 cups a day which maybe a little high!

None!

Hot + liquid = soup!! :)

I drink around 4 litres of water a day, have had 3 or 4 coffees in my life though, but only ever the one sip of tea - yuk!

If it's really really cold and I need warming up then I enjoy a hot oxo - which is just a very watery beef soup really! Other than that it's around 4 litres of water a day. Half a dozen cups of coffee have passed my lips in my lifetime but only ever the one sip of tea - yuk! :p

Back in Finance Director days (10 years ago now) it reached double figures most days - one at breakfast, one from the Coffee Republic a few yards from the office - then everyone who went to the Coffee Republic for a bulk order put one on my desk.
It wasn't the permanent high (that was dulled by the evening alcohol) - it was the calories that presented the problem.
One present customer has ruined my life by saying that 3 medium lattes contain the entire calorific content for the day!

Now - tea on almost all occassions.
I was recently working in Sri Lanka and visited a plantation - brought back loads of tea - including 'silver tip' - great posh tea.
In fact - I'm going to leave the study and watch the snooker with a nice cuppa now.

Research* has shown that coffee drinkers hallucinate; you know see fairies at the bottom of the garden, boogie men everywhere and all that malarkey.
Which comes as no surprise to those of us sane people firmly anchored in the tea drinking reality based world. Like Estwig, and me, Napoleon.

*It's a BBC story. The reporter got the story from 'sources' that he 'just heard'. In Starbucks. Same old same old.

I used to drink far too many coffees. Ended up with heart palpitations and had to get hooked up to one of those 24 hour monitors to see what was going on.

So I limit myself to 1 coffee an hour now. No more. (No less)

Amateurs!! (Said she that aint allowed to have caffeine!)

I used to drink coffee to keep me awake as middle brat is an insomniac that meant mother had to stay up with him all night ... he still is, but is able to amuse himself these days!

Those were the days when I had another as soon as I had finished the first one ... which is probably why I now have a caffeine issue that makes me very ill if I have it! Still can't sleep properly either, in fact sod the coffee, just get kids, they keep you on your toes and ruin your life!! ;)

Tea leaves do indeed have more caffeine in them than coffee beans.
However ...
A cup of tea contains a lot less caffeine than a cup of coffee.
I presume because the leaves are only dipped in the water where as the beans are ground up and consumed along with the water.

Saying that tea has magical properties that transcend the power of caffeine:D
