How do I remove DMOZ description from Google SERPs

Hi all,


For some reason Google uses our DMOZ directory description as our site description when you search for 'Mail Workshop' on Google:

How do I tell Google to use our website's description instead?

Seems crazy they value DMOZ's description higher than the website itself's.

Hi Simon.

Unfortunately there is no way to tell Google which description to use. If you can change the description in DMOZ that would probably be the easiest way.

Google quite openly state that they reserve the right to use whatever text they think is most helpful in the SERPs. Usually it is the meta description, but they may take text from elsewhere if they think it is more relevant. That can include text from elsewhere on the web page / site and indeed from other sites!

The best advice I can give is:

To ensure that Google use your meta description, make sure it is well written, useful, and of course unique.

Unfortunately even then there is no guarantee, Google tend to do as they please!

Ps, the text they use may even depend on the phrase searched for. As they will try to show text relevant to what the user is looking for.

Try <meta name="googlebot" content="NOODP"> as that worked for me

Forgot to mention I've already done that and re-submitted the site, over 2 weeks ago - Still no change.
