History behind Grand March

Hi Everyone,

Some of my friends in India who watched my Marriage Video and asked me why is your marriage celebration so different from ours....

After the Mass we had a reception which involved the "Grand March", With a Live band and the ceremony of receiving gifts and the Buffet with an open Bar.

I know that the english wedding will have the Grand March and that's what my parents and Grand Parents had too. I'm not sure of why we have the grand march or is there a history behind it.

My mom just asked my wife to keep her wedding dress safe as it will be used for the child's christening as that's the tradition followed by Anglo-Indians. Does that have a history too???

Intersting news about why grand march and why bridesmaid:

I saw this on a book and this was in my grandpa's shelf no name because there is no cover for this book the pages are brown in colour it has only few pages god knows where's the rest and its rat bitten as well, the book is written by George wharton, its a book purchased in the UK as these books are not available in India when my grandpa came to India....

The book states that,

Way before the 1850's, in most church ceremonies, music was not usually permitted. organ music before or after the marriage vows was being permitted about 1852, and soon became customary. At first, the organist was left to select as he pleased from Bach and the other classicists. Gradually, however, two favorites appeared, The Bridal Chorus from Wagner's Lohengrin and the Wedding March which Mendelssohn wrote for Midsummers Night's Dream. Everyone knows the opening strains of Wagner's "Here Comes the Bride", also the gay Mendelssohn music which accompanies the wedding party as they march away from the altar. Thus was set the wedding's traditional musical entrance and exit, which has existed now for over 100 years.

The Bridesmaid story is that they will be dressed just like the Bride with gown's in similar fashion to confuse the evil spirits or jealous suitors attempted to harm the newlyweds. The bridesmaids will usally be the friends and relatives of the bride. They also have a bridal wreath which has a significance....

The book is interesting and it looks like a manuscript which was allowed to be published, if I put it on ebay may get a good price for those who want to preserve this master piece...

I've never heard of a grand march? I didn't have one at my wedding? I'll ask around and see if anyone I know has heard about it.

The Grand march is carried out in all Anglo Indian Weddings in India, and not every one live a porsh life over here. Its a tradition, not sure about the history, I wish my grand pa was alive

I know very little about Indian weddings, only the little I see on TV. You should put some of your wedding video on You Tube for us to see. I love a nice wedding.
