Hi,

I completed a job for the company, and the following day, my work was taken down.

The next day, although no one spoke to me directly, I overheard that there were concerns about the installation being completed too early. Despite this, I kept being asked to provide a copy of my paperwork.

I then went on holiday. Upon my return, as I was leaving for the day, I received an invitation to an Investigation Meeting regarding allegations of unauthorised work.

The email was addressed from a particular person in HR. However, when I contacted them, I discovered they were still on annual leave and had been for the past two weeks due to their recent wedding.

The document said it was private and confidental and included the issued date it was sent to me, but I noticed the surname was incorrect on the paperwork as two weeks agao they married and the document propertied show either my manager has either created or modified the file on the morning it was sent. It was sent to me by my manager, who claimed it was from the HR representative.

Effectively, I was given just one working day's notice for the meeting, although I had noticed an unfamiliar meeting scheduled in my diary at the same time and date as the investigation.

I’ve been told I must attend this investigation meeting, but I do not feel adequately prepared. I asked why I wasn’t informed before my holiday, given that the work was carried out on a Monday and my last working day was Thursday. I was told they didn’t want me to worry while on annual leave.

My manager set the timeframe for the work, stating it had to be completed before my holiday. The work was completed as instructed, and a work permit was processed and approved for the date in question.

Despite this, the director spoke to me aggressively about part of the job on my last day. The company continues to say they will shut down my department in three months if work doesn’t pick up, and I’m constantly being asked whether this is the right job for me or if I’m happy working here.

After years of service, it feels as though they are always looking to find fault in my work, and this has had a significant impact on my mental health.

I’m not sure what steps I can take next, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

@random360 - that’s a really confusing post. On one hand it reads like you are a contractor, then a department head. How can they shut down a department for lack of work unless you are responsible for your own marketing?

However, this is a forum for business owners. I suggest you go get legal help from an employment specialist.

To be honest this does not sound like something that can be just sorted out on a forum in my opinion, theres a lot more I suspect going on here than work not being up to the mark. My suggestion would be to have a look here and get some advice, I would also be looking at my contract and terms and conditions.

Do you have home insurance? If so, check it it includes Legal Advice cover. If it does, call them now as they can provide professional advice on employment issues such as this

(If you are acting as a self employed contractor - your home insurance is unlikely to help. It usually only works if you are an employee).

Great. But write down a timeline with the facts. Remove all emotion and hearsay and even your own opinion.

Where possible provide evidence (contracts, emails, task specifications etc).
