Hello my name is Kate and I found this great forum a couple of weeks ago and have been picking up loads of really helpful information on the quiet, so decide it was high time I joined in properly!

I set up my website www.bitsnstuff.co.uk last year, but unfortunately due to health problems and lack of knowledge I stopped in January of this year. I am now, however, trying to set it up again and am working hard on the new site, getting new supplier, learning about marketing and many other subjects and hope that if I need some assistance as I progress, I will be able to ask here for some help.

I will keep an eye out for anyone I can help and will chip in with my two penny worth wherever I can.

First of all Congratulations.

Thank you very much for your message and site comments - greatly appreciated after so much hard work! I hope you remember my site for any future events :lol:

I have written my first press release ready for the site launch and am trying to work out how you obtain a list of contacts to send it to? I have spent some time looking on the internet - is it just a question of compiling a contact list from the relevant publications websites and sending off a press release on the off chance or is there a more exact science?

I am planning to add a free reminder service, a gift ideas section and also many more products, do you send out releases every time something interesting happens - I don't want to annoy the press before I have even started!

Any help would be appreciated, as this is all new to me and I am SO keen to do it right this time.

Thanks! - You may have to wait a year or so until there's another occassion!

On the PR front, my advice (and I'm not a PR person) is send as much and as often as possible as long as it's interesting and newsworthy.

I have built up a list over the past 12mths or so, I'll happily let you have that if you like although it's very southern UK based?

Nice site.

You may want to remove the first paragraph when you get going......no need to apologise for a nice site

Some tips fro generating traffic to your site:-

* add a blog as part of the site and write often
* set up a "my yahoo" page and add the RSS feed from your blog
* join other popular online networks and blog often

If the above seems like double dutch :? just do a google search on "using blogs to increase site traffic" or something similar.

Hi Kate

When visitors arrive at your site, it is important to keep them there. Try to use snappy page titles and headings to give the reader an instant overview of what is contained within the site.

Web surfers are not patient and strange as it may sound - want to read as little as possible! I agree with odeniyi - no need to apologise for a pleasant website when there are so many horrible sites around.
