Google is overstepping the mark here IMO. in the serps I am seeing immages of potential friends. I did a search and Danyy's site came up, and alongside searchengine watch was an image of Danny.

For me this is gross invasion of privacy

I think I am going to have to close my Gmail account down now. but then again google do it for ALL their systems, analytics, WMt etc.

This could cause real problems for people.

Wow, so glad I don't use Google for anything other than the absolute necessary.

Consider the Google toolbar (spyware), Gmail (targeted adverts), Google+ (social network), youtube (viewing habits), webhistory (personal interests). Everyone is geared to tracking your every movement, they know what you do, when you do it, who you connect to, what you look like, where you work and so much more.

It's big brother by consent. Did nobody realize when they installed the toolbar all those years ago that Google would track every single site you visited and 'personalise' the content they served you. A quick investigation into something iffy would result in adverts for similar products appearing when you signed into gmail.

Google+ is just an extension of this data collection process.

What I don't like is when you +1 a page it pulls an image from the page you have +1'd and uses it as a thumbshot on your profile, with you having no choice of what image is used.

At least with facebook you have a choice of images or whether to use a thumbshot or not.

We're thinking Google +1 is going to be big - the big G is ALWAYS biased to its own products/services and social media will continue to be the biggest craze on the net for the next couple of years at least.
