Google knows best????

I have a business with a finite supply and for some periods I can do without adwords so I either turn down the budget or, switch off adwords completely for a few days. This active management has produced a saving over the course of the year a several thousands of pounds.

Well not anymore.

It seems Google knows best. Last week I was able to switch off adwords and turn back on yesterday. I have a set budget and as far as I am concerned I want that daily budget adhered to. Yesterday, Google decided that I would have high demand so the actual spend is nearly 90% higher than an average day. They made a very undercover announcement:

“Starting October 4, 2017, campaigns will be able to spend up to twice the average daily budgett to help you reach your advertising goals.”

Did the near doubling of my spend yesterday by Google result in nearly twice the traffic? Actually no. It was actually a very quiet day.

Anyone been affected by this or know a way to get round Google deciding that they know best?

Does anyone know the best strategy to use the tactics I use?

Or

We are again stuck with another imposition by this near monopoly spending our money in a way that we cannot properly audit and now with even less control?

As a rider to my previous post:

Until I came across this "favour" google is now doing us some of my campaigns only in the busiest periods did not use up the whole budget.

Now, the budgets are spent everyday with no significant increase in traffic.

Indeed when the snow was on the ground and my business was almost moribund the spend remained at max level and on the really bad days the phone never rang and the website remained unvisited.

I should write more at 07.30 because it stimulates the grey matter.

So., my elastoplast solution, until another solution appears, is to reduce the daily budget set by 50% when Google decides to "help me out" it will only be able to double the budget up to what I intended my maximum daily budget to be.

Or, in other words, I have sewn up my pockets to stop a pickpocket getting at my cash.
