Hi all

i was encouraged to discover that one the us here found my thread on giving up smoking an inspiration. So much so this person decided to try themselves. I will not divulge the ID of this person as this person told me in confidence.

One of the things i don't think i mentioned was that during the time i was givng up (and i am still on my way to becoming a non smoker) i wrote a short pdf file on it.
This contains my reasons for quitting, and how i generally surived while i did.
If anyone would like a copy of this, drop me an email, i will send it FREE.
[email protected]

i wrote it really as i thought it could help others.

It's no secret Al,

Yes it's me, two days now and i've not hit anyone yet, doing well

I've figured out how those patches work too. They itch that much, it takes your mind off the ciggies

I smoked for 10 years and gave up 10 years ago.

I STILL want a ciggy sometimes but it wasn't until I realised that I'd probably want one occasionally for the rest of my life that I was able to keep 'stopped'

Well done Al and keep up the good work Jayne. I have a friend who used a slightly different method when giving up. Everytime he felt like he wanted one he bit into a cigarette and forced himself to eat it ! Within a few weeks he lost the urge to have one totally. Thats been 2 years now !

Stick to the patches Jayne....

I smoked 25-30 a day for 8 years and quit about 4 years ago. I miss it like crazy ... I still think about it every day.

I think it's a myth that you ever 'become a non-smoker'; the best we can hope for is a 'currently non-smoking person' :-)

It's tough Jayne, but good luck. The patches worked for me. If you do fall off the wagon, don't beat yourself up. Just get back on it again.

(if anyone's looking for a more unusual stop smoking solution, you can do worse than www.freshstartmethod.com - it's a hypnotherapy solution run by a friend of mine ... he offers a money back guarantee.)

Think I will Jacqui

I tried earlier and caved, so i'm trying again, with patches this time. They are quite good and it's not quite as hard as I thought. Mark will have stopped for a month on Sunday. I'm determined not to have one ever again or let Mark beat me

I am almost at the end of the first year of giving up ciggies, after smoking for about twenty years.

I am not sure if I am still a moody bugger, because everybody still keeps out of my way. Only joking.

Good luck to anybody who gives it a go.

it is true the craving still does return.
Buit now i have finally quit it is easier.

for a long time i gave up smoking cigarettes, and wen onto cigars just have one or two in the evening. Until of course this number was increasing. Although i would go the day without and smoke in just the evening.
So come new years eve just gone, i smoked my last Cuban and now here is am, not touched a smoke in nearly three weeks.

I have no problems with it. I am going all the way now. Def over the worst.

Al

COME ON JAYNE, YOU CAN DO IT

I was a wannabe axe-murderer for 3 months when I gave up smoking.

I remember one time shouting at Mrs Matrixx about the way she was breathing.

I am so glad I gave up though.

And yes - I see it as the same as an alcoholic - I know I can never have even 1 cigarette again ever or I will be straight on 40 a day and never stop again.

Oh I did tell Mark to shut his face this morning, but that doesn't count, because he was moaning on about something boring anyway:lol:

Still smoke free...day two and still happy :D

There you see Janye, you have managed your second day.
If you can get through the first, you can do the second

I also agree with Matrixx, i can never have another, if i do i will be back.
Giving up was good for my health and my finances. I am still saving £4.94 a day on qutting fags!
£3.99 a day on quitting cigars.

I still like a drink though :-)

I smoked for about 22 years and gave up in February 2004 and don't feel like starting again. Jayne, any length of time where you don't smoke can only be good for you so good luck.

If however you start again, try wearing a patch and having a cigarette at the same time - quite a boost apparently :D

I tried patches, but found they were very difficult to light, so went back to the cigarettes

Keep up the good work!

Try chewing gum when you get a craving, apparently that works. Your teeth will fall apart though !

Yha, I think you add something like 5 years onto your life expectancy by quitting smoking! How long after you've stopped are you considered a 'non-smoker'?

My nanna gave up by eating mint imperials. 20 years later she was still buying a weekly supply.

Did u have time to read the pdf i sent u, did it help?

Ts takes 21 days to change a habit. You are now well on you way.

Also the effects are physcological. Its the change of routine u are getting used to now. The habit.
Another 10 days, u will be over the worse of it.
that will be around £70 saved! hmm, what will you do with that extra £70 Jayne?

Al

I wonder if this idea can help me in my quest to become cellibate?
Cheers, Nigel
