Giving up smoking

I'll never moan at anyone for not being a vegetarian

My girlfriend would love you ! Can't eat a ham sandwich round her, she goes loopy!

And Jayne, instead of thinking of yourself, think of your family. Smoking's like slow suicide, how would your family feel if they lost you to it? Just keep fighting it! :D!

Oh I have just had a great idea Al, Liam could become a none smoking website and nag people to stop smoking, he's very good at it

Run by kids, to shame adults into stopping :D

Lol the thing is that most of the people my age are so weak minded that they've given into peer pressure and started because their mates have!!

I got threatened today ! By one of my mate's boyfriends :D! Just incase you'd like to know! I love knowing that I've got to someone !

It's great that he sees me as such a threat !

Wow I thought I'd lost this thread forever !

How's it going Jayne? Day 8,9,10 now? Still non-smoking? I've given up coke, GOD it's hard! I get such bad cravings! If I'm this badly addicted to caffine, imagine what I'd be like trying to give up smoking !

Keep up the good work if you've not given in!!

Meet my Dad that will make you quit. He was always saying "I've been smoking all my life and it hasnt done me any harm". Now hes proof of why smokers should stop. A lot of us are paying the NHS to spend needed cash on you.

But I quit 10 days since and pay my own NI thanks, in case I ever need the NHS, so far not, so I haven't cost you or anyone else a penny

Was only pointing out the cons of smoking was'nt a stab at anyone. We all contribute to the NHS not pay for our own costs.

This is why i'm a none smoker now :D

I do get irritated when people say smokers are costing the NHS loads of money. What about druggies, alcoholics etc, they never mention how much they are costing..or how much they cost the police too.

I had knew a lad who was only 32 when he died of cancer, never smoked, hardly drank and was a sporty lad, played tennis, footy, you name it. I think when your time is up, it's up.

Yet there was on old chap who lived on my Grans street, like a chimney he smoked (woodbines), died at 94, go figure

My dad is on medication to keep him going. He went for a flu jab when he was 60 and they said they could here him coming down the corridor. After the x ray of his lungs thay said he had severe lung damage from smoking and which has wiped 15 yrs off his life.
I think booze is worse though my friend is 31 and I don't think he will get to 40. All the hospital can do is release him when he wan't to go for another drink.
The hard drugs problem will only go away if the UK does a full scale invasion on Afganistan where 90% of it comes from but the people won't agree with it. plus it will cost more than what it costs the NHS to deal with it.

Well day 11 and still a none smoker :D

I must admit, I am starting to feel a bit different and things are starting to taste even better than before, especially chocolate

Image Man - I'm sorry your Dad is i'll, has he stopped yet? If not tell him to try, it's amazing how better i'm feeling now and it hasn't even been two weeks yet. These patches are great!

i am also a non smoker as you all know.

but i am going to add this, ok smoking and cancer may well costs the NHS money.
But could i also point out that much of the cost of a packet of fags goes back to the government anyway.
I am not defending smokers rights here, but fairs fair on this one.

Although it is a lovely thought that giving up smoking means less damage to the lungs.
Also as you continue to smoke eventually you will run out of healthy parts of the lungs to breathe with.

The main motivating fact for me was, simply the cost of smoking, not to the govt, but to moirself :-)

Very well done Jayne proud of you.

It also shows tremendous strength of character to quit. :-)
It does get easier.
you will also notice how the orange stain in ur fingers will now go, and ur sense of smell will rtn. You will smell a smoker from 20 paces soon :-)
I hope u don't like pubs, they are worse for a smoker.
You will soon see why they want to ban smoking in public places.

There's a poster above my computer in I.T, it says

'If you smoke now at 15, and live to be 75, with the price of a packet of cigarettes now (£5 for 20), you will have spent £100,000!

But with inflation, this could increase to £250,000.'

Shocking huh?
