I'm looking to have abit of a chill out area in my shop as the market we are in is quite a sociable one,

What licences do I need will it just be a prs? As want to have a DVD and game console (no actualy tv)

Would you need to license the DVDs and games for showing in public? Not sure how it'd work to be honest. Hmv does something similar.

From experience you can't just pick up a normal DVD and broadcast it to the public. How many businesses are doing that already is a separate matter.

No experience here, but interested to know.

To play DVD's publicly your will need a PVS licence

I think you business would come under the licence of footfall see below

Footfall: This is for organisations such as commercial outlets with a weekly flow of customers through the premises such as pubs, clubs and bars, retail outlets and restaurants. The tariff is based on the average footfall of the whole premises on a weekly basis and not on audience size.

this really wont be a cheap option.

socom are you trying to entertain kids whilst adults are shopping or are you in a leisure business already? Anything playing copyright music requires PPL & PRS although they are working on a joint licence venture. Some licences are geared to the sqm of the shop. Re DVD etc as above^

Lone workers do not need any licences as long as they leap up and turn off the music at the sight of an approaching punter.

Might actually be easier to find out what licence is involved in publically playing a tv.

This isn't true, you still need a licence - unless you are listening on headphones. It's just one of the stupid inconsistent rules that show the PRS/PPL for the moronic, extorting bullies that they are.
