Unfortunate but not surprising - a good downloadable product for those wanting to run their own chat servers.

it's not for me but my clients who like free stuff. I personally think it's worth it but many small businesses don't really need it.

A couple of things have come mind reading this:
1. Livezilla is not part of the Mozilla Project, I always assumed it was because of it's name. Knowing that would put me off using it on principle.
2. Not aimed at the OP, I have no idea what they do but fisicx's comments made me think just how many people are taking a bunch of open source applications and selling them with very little input from themselves. I use open source stuff myself (a lot of JQuery) and i'm always happy to share my code where possible but it just makes me think the whole concept of open source is not for middlemen to make a quick buck from. Not aimed at the OP, just a general observation.
I wonder how many man-hours of coding have gone into a cheap wordpress website with a few plugins, jquery banner, livechat.

I see what you mean but it's not so much a quick buck but I see it as paying for professional knowledge. When developers/designers/IT speak to customers they know the market inside out and can advise on the cheapest solutions. In most cases that's open source. I do alot of research on the best tools, I don't know everything obviously which is why I'm on here a lot asking 'what's the best...'.
Some of my small businesses have saved thousands just consulting me about stuff were they would have paid several hundred for a chat client, AV Prog, backup solution, servers etc. One small company was about to spend several hundred on 3 x Windows 7 Pro the other month just so they could use Open Office and Email. They weren't even aware something like Ubuntu existed.

As a single freelancer I like to use Google Chat and have a button on my website. It's a very simple solution but it depends on me having Google Chat open myself and I have to be switched on to catch anyone chatting to me.
I've made a guide on how to incorporate it onto your site and I'd be happy to post the link for anyone who needs it. (I'm new here, don't want to be a spammy sort!).
Of course, for the more corporate websites it will be too basic however and certainly no replacement for livezilla.

Comm100 is pretty good and like Zopim, is free for the first user. It's remotely hosted, unlike mibew etc. so all you have to do is include a link.

I think Comm100 is now only available as a free trial.
Their servers are hosted in Canada so susceptible to a bit of lag but still the best of the bunch.
We've used ZopIM in the past. Moved away as their Flash client just didn't get along with our Macs.

Just chatted with Comm100 and they confirm the free version offer has expired.
Shame. We were still beta-testing when they moved from a free-open source version so only managed to get two free operators. This doesn't cover our support team so have been looking for a cost-effective alternative.

Why would you use a FREE service for a business?
Not only do you support other businesses, you also know that with paid services in general you will get a better solution and support!
People offering free solutions wont care much for your problems, they wont be jumping up and down forcing things to be fixed should something break,
Relying on something that is FREE for a business is stupid in my eyes.
Just my 2c...
Obviously i'm biased but im sure other businesses will agree and after all we are all business's not 12year old bloggers yea?

There's nothing wrong with free software, they make revenue from advertising or support. Livezilla was free for years and was and still is one of the best tools on the market. Do you pay for your browser, ftp software, antivirus, dev software, mail client, wordpress plugins, online services such as facbook, youtube... the list goes on.
Paying over the odds BECAUSE you're a business is stupid in my eyes! There are too many companies being ripped off in business because they don't know the alternatives.

I did say I was biased.... Was just trying to get a general point across regarding FREEness in the business world.. It ends in tears.
Also A lot of businesses will not put up with advertising in their systems or paying over the odds for extra support.
Im not talking about facebook etc where "YOU" are the product that they then sell.
You are a business and a lot of time being seen using free tools is a turn off for clients.

try the new livezilla thats free.. lots of new features, a virtual assistant type of affair has been added.
Works like FAQ page, but interactive, try the one on their site www.livezilla.net
