Lol umm think i understand the question , and the answer is yes and no.. free index you willget countless calls asking you to upgrade, but some directories will bring you traffic, just be picky with who you choose

I did not receive any benefit from Free Index from an SEO point of view, although I wouldn't rule out Directories all together.

We registered on 25,000 directories over the course of 7 months (naturally inputting one by one) - did not make a jot of difference.

My understanding is that if you are a new company, then going on to sites like Yahoo directory, DMOZ, Joeant is worth while - not only tells search engines you are there. Nothing more. There are tens of thousands of other directories around - but they do not really do anything for your sites viability.

Just been advised this and looking at the outcome of the hard work - found it to be true.

May I ask - why are you looking into directories?

Personally, I haven't been looking into Directories. It has taken some of my attention in the past as I have found that it can help depending on the Google PR of the Directory in question. Purely from an SEO point of view, not from a traffic point of view.

As you say, it can help in letting Google know that you are out there.

Directories can make a difference, I've seen the effect of directory listings and the results have been positive.

I've done them on new sites and existing sites. IMO it's about where the link will be placed. Is it a relevant page, is it indexed, when was it last cached, how many out bound links are on the page, how deep in the site is the page etc etc.

sometimes we use our previous directory data most sites get paid or site dis-continued or some problem occurs.. So its not constant..Keep searching over internet and this is good..

The best way to see which directories will work for you is to do a link command on your competitors and see what directories appear on that.

Then you wont be wasting your time on the hundreds of worthless ones that you might find posted by some people on other forums like digital point

and there was a few people who couldnt see past that they must struggle talking to people at times
