Finally tested positive for Covid :-(

I suppose it depends how selfish you are.
Are you implying the family should pay for Covid tests then cancel their holiday (possibly losing thousands of pounds and the booked holiday time off work) ?
It's easy to throw around terms like "selfish" when it isn't you having to do that.
I would not think they are selfish. If people are still paranoid about catching Covid then wear an FFP3 mask on the plane which I believe protect the wearer, though they are pretty uncomfortable....

Lastly, the $64,000 question. How long, in your opinion, should all this testing and having to cancel holidays, go on ? And, incidentally, having to wear a mask to go and see ones relatives in care homes. Forever ?

Have you never heard of insurance?

I am genuinely worried that the idiots trying to claim that covid vaccination is unnecessary, sinister and dangerous has put many off getting vaccinated for other diseases.
Covid vaccinations are not necessary for healthy young people and certainly not for kids. It is people saying they are, particularly for kids, who are the idiots.

Do all insurance policies even pay out on catching Covid ? I would have thought such a policy would be very expensive, and in any case would not solve the issue of having lost a weeks holiday for what for most people, is like a cold.

Would you expect people to cancel a holiday if they had flu ?
What about a throat infection (some of which can be more debilitating than Covid) ?
How about for cold (some of them can be stinkers) ?
Where are you drawing the line ?

But I note you have avoided answering the awkward question, how long do you think these measures you espouse should go on for ?

I have kidney failure. I've had Covid, and while I'm vaccinating and it was quite mild for me (for rotten for a couple of days, didn't have a fever or coughing/loss of smell), many of the people on my dialysis unit are much older, and some don't have immune systems. If I passed it to the other patients on the unit, several of them would die, simple as.

I have no desire to put them at risk.

How can that be true ?
How come all the thousands of other bacteria and viruses don't kill them then ?
I thought the only people who really don't have immune systems are those poor kids you see in space suits sometimes.
I hadn't realised you were a medical doctor.

You are just showing your lack of knowledge once again. Rather than just cherry pick random articles that fit your personal agenda doing a little bit of research would help you understand.

You're clearly unaware of what happens when someone has or has had a transplant.
Still, ignorance shouldn't surprise me.
Sorry, maybe you can help out by educating me.
People may well have lowered immune systems, but if they really have no immune system at all how do they fight off all the other bugs and viruses which our body is attacked with daily ?

I've not had Covid, but most of my immediate family, wife, kids, boyfriends, neighbours have. I had the vaccinations but am reluctant to take up the offer of the joint Flu & Covid one now.
