Customisation, you can basically add anything you want and link to anything you want - even put an e-mail sign up form if you like

FBML is just Facebook's markup language, it is very similar to HTML, there is a few changes and many HTML tags are stripped from it.

An example of some custom Facebook Fan Page tabs I developed using FBML can be seen here... You can do much more with them but here is a basic example.

I think the Static FBML application is one of the best out there - being able to brand your fanpage with code is fantastic. Many unbranded pages can be very samey/bland, especially if there is not a lot of interaction.
