Do you accept AMEX and Mastercard?

Hi Guys,

I as just wondering of you guys accept AMEX and/or mastercard on your websites?

I am not 100% sure weather to accept AMEX and I hear some people get a lot of charge backs from AMEX?

Also not sure on mastercard.

Let me know your views.

Yes - both. Not many people pay via Amex and the charges are slightly higher offhand. We don't get chargebacks (beyond obvious fraud which is maybe a couple a quarter as most of them use Paypal) so can't be much use there.

We cancelled AMEX on the day they charged us £5 for a statement which had one transaction on it.

Mastercard - yes of course, its just like visa!

Amex - no, simply because the charges are too high.

I can accept MasterCard,because many people with this card, good payment.

mastercard is a given but amex is one to ponder. apparently, amex card holders have higher disposable incomes (their various cards are issued based on a household income levels with the minimum now something like £40k) and like to use their amex and will favour retailers they find who accept it.

their fees are higher (that statement fee is shocking deniser!) but would this be compensated for by bigger spending customers returning more often? dunno tbh

boot on the other foot, i have an amex platinum cashback card and as it says, get cashback for everything i spend on it. so i try and use it whenever possible. do i shop somewhere more often because they take amex? possibly, yes. do i have a high disposable income? nope, not since we launched our business we shall again one day though and at least things are heading in the right direction. would i sign up for amex processing? not yet. since almost everyone has a debit card and one other credit card (visa/ mastercard), i don't particularly want to take the amex hit at the moment but when we can live off the business turnover reliably, i'll consider it.

I take mastercard and amex.
Amex does cost more per transaction. Not had any chargebacks though. I thought about not using it but I would rather provide the option to my customers than risk loosing a sale.

I'm the same - we take amex - never had any charge backs

I also noticed that our average spend per transactions is more for our amex customer.

Definitely worth it IMHO

I recently got an Amex merchant account but haven't activated it yet. I believe that you can get rid of statement costs by selecting online statements etc.
