Corporate Image or Just a Logo

I'm trying to get a new logo designed for the company as you might have seen in another thread on here.

I had an idea yesterday but not sure if it's the correct way of going about it, so I thought I'd do this post and get some feedbacks from here.

The idea was to have a complete Corporate Image designed, instead of just having a logo designed.

Which would include -

  • Logo
  • Documents
  • Compliment Slips
  • Business Cards
  • Add a design to your current website to fit the brand of your company
  • Social Media Design (Facebook and Twitter)
What do you think would it make the company look more professional and trustworthy or is it as waste of money?

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Surely if your having a new logo this would be used throughout letterheads, business cards, website, vehicle signage......etc. Your not going to have different logos on different things?

Everything needs to look like at all belongs to the same place. Colours, logos and fonts should be the same throughout all forms of media that clients will come accross.

I agree. I would expect your website to have the same thing as your cards and your letters to have the same as the business cards.

Keep everything with the same font, size, logo etc and it'll look much more professional :)

Looking through http://www.logoguru.co.uk/contests you'll see both contests for logos and then stationary.

From a little time spent viewing, the modus operandi seems to be from around $200 to get a logo, though raising this to $400 or so seems to bring in many more applications and then from $100 upwards for complete stationary packages.

This makes sense, as the logo is unique whereas the form of most stationary is hardly bespoke and the logo itself would form a large part of any artwork necessary.

I'm going to chuck around $500 split between the two to see what comes back and am at the moment reviewing current jobs to see which designers regularly contribute work according to my taste.

Thanks for all your reply.

I just want the company to as professional as it can.

Folk will recognise that you are not quite IBM or BA but it does present an image of someone who has invested in themselves, taken some time to think about how others perceive them and wants to project a professional image, as you recognise.

A few of my direct competitors advertise with handwritten photocopied leaflets, use 0845/0844 numbers, only have mobiles, do not have a registered company or any insurance or even list a contact address. I just love it and would happily pay them to continue shooting themselves in their feet :)

I've never been a fan of 0845/0844 as I don't think it's gives the look of a company that gives a great personal service which I like to offer.

Personally I'd rather ring a company with an area coded number, but that's only my opinion.

On my new site I'm toying with the idea of a mobile number as well, just in case I'm out coaching or doing a cue fitting.

I don't know if this is going to make the company look less professional or not.

I think if you have a home/ mobile number it makes you look like a small company with little cash flow. (So if the purchases are expensive, will you still be around if I have a problem with the product (not gone bust)?)

I've got a VOIP number for the business so it's not the home number. The mobile number is only optional not the main point of contact.

Perhaps I've got the wrong outlook on running a business, and I shouldn't be running one full stop.

The same could be said for anyone that has an area number as a point of contact.

After the weekend I've had, there are things more important than money and business.

Of course there is.
A business is a good way of exercising the brain though and showing yourself what you can do.

I don't like 08 numbers either and I think a mobile as an additional contact is not a bad idea, the only real problem is you would never be able to rest as you are always on call with it.

If your logo, your stationery, your website all matched and you have an address and phone number, you look professional. The rest is down to hard work.

Just my opinion, but I think you should just go and do it. It is worth at least trying.

Thanks Cheryl.

I just want to have a business image that people will remember and tell their friends about.

I also want my Facebook, Twitter etc to match so people will recognise it by the logo, then them people Like and Following The Cue Store.

I want a business image that I can be proud of and say that's mine!

Is that to much to ask?

No it isn't too much to ask. It is easy enough to do too.

Go for it and you'll soon be proud.

I think you need a theme on the side but im imagine this will come once you have your branding.

Do you sell snooker tables? Ive jsut had a look at your site and it doesnt look like you do. Im a big snooker fan, ive bookmarked your site :)

Also, i prefer local numbers. I avoid 08 numbers like the plague.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I want the same for my new business; look professional and appear bigger than it currently is. I have a landline with a local number when I'm out I use a bt divert to send calls to my work mobile and just make sure I always have signal (I have 2 phones on different networks, when one doesn't get signal the other usually does!)

It depends on budget, could you get the logo designed and incorporate it throughout your media and stationary yourself?

..... Personally I'd rather ring a company with an area coded number, but that's only my opinion....

So how do think you are viewed by people who live in areas with different area codes ?

Now that doesn't matter if you are British Airways or BT or even a niche company with few competitors but would you book a taxi from someone with an area code which wasn't the same as the one where you were ? I might make the assumption that you were too far away.

Would I call the plumber who was a different area code ? do I perceive that he will charge more because he lives farther away ?

I get my pots and pans from Harts of Stur and without looking, I guess they have a local number. However, they are branded to a location. Were I buying homogeneous snooker cues, I don't care where they come from, so the local number has no attraction. If I wanted a fitting service (I had one years ago), I would want the company and their telephone number would not matter.

In my opinion, there is no perfect solution but I feel as though 0800 has a place. Rip off 0844 and 0870 and worse are business killers IMHO and a geographical number is not going to be refused. I suspect a blend is the best advice.

I would reccomend going for full branding as oposed to just a logo because investing in full branding addresses your wider issues. This generally means that you’ll also be given specific fonts to use that tie in with your brand’s voice and send a strong coherent message.

Good and well thought out branding will push you past your competitors easily (if they’ve not gone down that route).

The idea is a good one, you should always try to change and for better, but you have to see what you're working with. Try to go for something like nature! Go simple and strong like Apple and Next went. When something, like Photoshop, is too complicated and just down right difficult it might prove intimidating to some people and just by the name or the logo you could lose a big amount of profit.
Try to take it in the road of nature based, simple and impacting.
If you don't believe me, than take this for example:
When you look at threads in this forum to respond to, would you prefer to respond to: "Please Help!" or to "My company has an incompetent CEO and is taking us to ruins!"
And if you still don't believe me than take this one than:
Would you be interested more with something that has the "US flag" or the "Japan Flag"
And finally if your need just one more:
What company would you prefer?
One named "Google" or one named "Hewlett-Packard" (Yes Hewlett-Packard is HP but on all these examples try not to think on the contents but on the things that I'm referring to...)

Sincerely, your hopefully future friend and companion,
AntF

I think the corporate image depends on what you are planning to do.
You can make most things look very similar without spending lots of money on it if you do it yourself.
If you are a small company and don't expect to grow too big, spending lots of money is probably not worth it at the present time.
If it looks similar it is good enough for a small company. It doesn't have to match exactly.
It just depends on how much income you expect to generate as to how far you go with getting it all exactly matching. Using your logo will make it match more. Just don't for wild pink in the website, green in the logo and red on the business cards!

Getting an area coded number is a good option if you want to establish the impression of global presence with your business spread in different parts of the world.
However, the idea of a mobile number on the site does not appear to be professional at all. In fact, it creates an impression that yours is a small company using a mobile phone. If you are coaching or doing cue fitting, you can have access to your business calls even without this option. Most of the business firms today are opting for Hosted PBX services. With this, you can get a soft phone on your cell phone which you can use to make and receive calls anytime, anywhere.
According to me, 800/845 numbers look quite professional due to certain reasons. It gives the calling party the advantage to call a particular business or company and get an answer to all his queries without having to worry about his phone bill. It is a general perception that any company that is capable of affording a toll-free number is a big one. I think you should get a toll-free number. If you want, you can also receive your toll-free calls on your cell phone. When you call someone, you can also set the toll-free number or your cell number whatever you want in the caller ID.
I am suggesting you since I have been using the same. Though my business is not too big, it appears to be so. I have noticed quite a drastic change in my professional image after starting the usage Hosted PBX system with a toll-free number from The Real PBX. The best part is that my provider is offering toll-free at quite less rates. Since the rates don’t make much difference, I find the service quite feasible as well.

I want to be able to make a comfortable life for myself and my family, that doesn't mean I want a big house and fancy cars.

I am a small company but I want to be able to compete with the other independent companies out there in the same field as me, and then be better then them.

Would never go for a wild pink in the website.

I know you wouldn't. I was just making a point that a small business can just make things look similar without spending lots.
