Hi
Finding this site very useful :)

I'm just starting up a new company, and would be great to have some advice on a name.
The company is an arboricultural practice (Fancy name for a Tree surgeon!), doing high quality work whilst being 'eco friendly'. After looking at many many names i'm down to only a few, none of which imply the high standard of work , the 'eco friendlyness' but all have 'tree' in the name to make it obvious what the company does!

HeyTrees

My surname is Hey, Is it obvious 'Hey' is a name? How else could it be interpreted? I usually think of company names like 'john smith' to be unimaginative and look like small '1 man bands'. Do you agree?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Charlie.

Im impressed with your business there are a few tree chopping boys around here .One of them is called "log on Dick Lane"

Could I ask how your enviromentalbility (hey I made a new word!) is different to other tree surgeons .Do you refuse to chop and just wait for the wind to blow it down :D

How about Eco Chopper !!!,,or Eco Lopper

Im not very good at this really ,am I ?

Now, now - give yourself some credit.

It must have taken weeks to come up with your company name :)

Now Geoff you raise a good point .

All the other couriers companies have names to forget .I think people remember this one.In addition to this back in the day before I formed a company I myself was already known in the industry so my name had to stay
.Then there is the Courier Services part .We can do anything !!!!

Thanks for the replys. Theres many small changes tree firms can make to become more 'eco friendly'. Doing work to help wildlife, incorporating habitat management/creation into tree work ect. Low carbon emissions, same as any company. Use biodegradable chain oil, tree surgeons get through many many liters of chain oil in chainsaws in a year, this is often environmentally unfriendly type of oil. If a tree is removed always plant a new one... Make an effort to reuse/recycle waste product. the list goes on.

Tried many names with 'eco' in but either they were taken :( or didn't sound right. topper/lopper are words not associated with high quality tree care, as is 'tree surgery'.
oldeagle- greenleaves was on the list, but arborcare may not be understood by many people, i know you have put the word tree in the slogan but arb/arboriculture may confuse the unaware people? (one of my favorites was something like 'Green Arboriculture - Caring for trees and the environment')
sherco special branches, acorn and oakleaf were all on the long list of possibilities. I like 'out on a limb', but as a company name doesn't explain the services offered.

Another favorite was Treeco. Sounds good to me then when the person who came up with it explained its like 'tree eco' and we could play with fonts/colours ect to show eco.

Thanks, Charlie.

Charlie you would be surprised - as indeed I was but as a 'keyword' Arbor is used just as much as tree surgeon. The public are a bit more educated than you think.

What is equally surprising is that there are more tree surgeons in North London than anywhere else in the country. All of which leads me to another possible. I believe that in the USA and Canada the guys responsible for conservation and looking ater the trees are called the "Forest Rangers"

What about
The Arbor or Tree Rangers.

Professional tree surgeons with the emphasise on eco friendly & conservation

Thanks for the reply. Very interesting. Is there anywhere i can find 'keywords' myself?

I'd love to concentrate on conservation/woodland management, but i'd also like to earn some money! I don't think there's much call for this line of work and i don't think it would be as well paid as domestic tree work. Although i do have 1 small sideline i would like to try in the future...

TreEco is good

Treeco

I thought it was trying to be too clever. And how would people pronouce it? tree co, or tree eco? if the latter it just looks like you can't spell and missed an e!

Thanks, Charlie.

There are two ways to find out which keywords are used and or are more productive. If you use Firefox browser for instance you can use an 'ad on' called info. This sits in the bottom of your screen near the task bar. What you do then is do a Google search for a specific keyword/s. Lets say tree surgeon. On the first page you will see the top 10 rankings.

Lets say you now click on number 1. You now have your compeitors home page. Next step is to click on that 'add on' button marked INFO. You will then see a whole wealth of valuable information for example who actially owns the web site. What keywords are installed. What the rankings are and if you follow the link to Alexa you can often find how many visitors the site gets. Whether the number has gone up or down over the last three months. Which is a good way to monitor seasonal trade.

The other way is to go to Google direct and check out the rates on the pay per click scheme. This will tell you if for instance if 'eco friendly' really is an important keyword for anyone seeking a tree surgeon.

Hope the info helps.

I think cjd has picked a good name here, has bags of potential for Branding and all the associated stuff, articles, websites, signage et al. BTW I mean your version.

It says to me, Tree Co - the tree company AND Tree Eco - Ecological Tree business.

Letters being dropped isn't anything to worry about, particularly if its done well, in this case its done well...;)

Thats interesting, these are pretty much the only 2 names i have left that i didn't cross off the list. With treeco i was also concerned about how its pronounced, 'tree co' is snappy and memorable, 'tree eco' doesn't sound quite right to me and a bit of a tongue twister. I'm concerned if the logo was colored as above people would call it tree eco...

Eagle. That made sense but i'm on a mac, can i download firefox? Couldn't find anything in google ???

Thanks, Charlie.

Trust me on this, grab TreEco asap... Not registered as a trademark and it is just perfect. Says everything. I have built maybe 60 brands...

  • Its functional
  • Adaptable if the eco thing doesn't work : Tree Co
  • Does what it says on the tin.
  • Use colour as suggested for the accent... or indeed font... or both.

Why not use an online polling website with your potential customers... and if you don't know who they are... find them rapid.

If you're not a branding expert, your view on how people pronounce it isn't all that relevant...

You have been gifted a great idea here... run with it...

Treeco is very good.

as mentioned it can look like tree co. or tree eco (pronounced tree-co)

in terms of branding the logo would dictate how people read the name, if this name has not already been bagged i would snap it up if i were you.

google search done..... name in use .co.uk (for sale by a co. who buy domain names to sell) and .com both taken - bugger!

good luck with the name

Hi

Have you checked out your competitors? How have they branded themselves?

Sometimes, it's a good idea to have a keyword in your company name. If you want to have a website, it helps to think about which words a prospect would use to find you on the net. It's about logical thinking. Put yourself in the shoes of your customers. Which words describe what you do? Jot them down...Mind-map them.

There are plenty of keyword suggestion tools on the Internt to help you... Plus, you can analyse website for their keywords. Just to check 'em out! ;)

Good luck with it! Won't suggest a name as it all depends whether the domain is available. Remember, the copy on your site will help you to be found online. So, choose something that fits with what you are offering. Having tree in the name might be a good start though...

Colin. Below you will find almost all the keywords that people use to find your service and they throw up some interesting facts.

1) I said earlier not to underestimate the public when it comes to using the more technical word for your profession - Arborist. In fact almost 3 times as many people use that as the main keyword rather that what your would think was the more common 'tree surgeon'

2) If at any time you really want to get into marketing you might want to take on board that an average of over 110,000 people search for an ' Arborist. As said around a third 33,000 search for a Tree Surgeon.

To target these people would cost 88p per click to to get a top Google rating and get guaranteed visitors to your web site. Great value by any standards compared to a local ragsheet but you can do even better that. If you add the geological area you cover to Arborist the price comes down to just 4p. An example would be Arborist North London.

3) Another surprise - 'eco' of eco friendly is hardly ever used as a keyword in this in this context. Only some 33 people in fact out of those 110,000.

In summary then. Both in terms of branding and web site traffic you really ought to use Arborist in your trading name and personally I reckon ' Hey's Arborist's is a good as any or change the spelling to Hays to give a more green countryside impression of haystacks and of course woodland.

you'd be surprised, some people loved the idea and encouraged me to go for the tree amigos... the tree musketeers... the tree wise men... :p but not my style i don't think.

Thewordwell- yes i have checked competitiors, lots of variety out there, often with oak, acorn, or other tree type names in followed by tree surgery or tree care. a couple with eco/green type names.

Lsting designs, i lkie that :)

Eagle. That is VERY useful thank you. will check some keywords later with that tool. Thanks.

Thanks

I do like 'The Eco Tree Co'

ecotreeco.co.uk is available but .com is gone. However .com is not being used and was only regesitered in May . Email the contact steboardman84 at hotmail.com and see if he'll sell. Even if he doesnt he aint using it soit wont be too much of a problem.

Regarding OldEagleEyes excellent listings above, as long as your webste is optimised for the right keywords it doesnt HAVE to be a 'keyword' company name to work in google.

Thanks very much for this link, being in a similar line of work, quite revealing to find what people actually search for. Garden services gets a mere 40,500 whereas Gardeners gets a whopping 368,000. Very interesting :D

Thanks
