Companies that buy stock...?

I'm looking to find a company to sell off a fair wad of my stock. Does anyone know anyone or where I can find companies that do this kind of thing?

I can put you in contact with a few companies that buy old stock if you'd like to send DM. Be warned though, they generally work on about 5% of retail price so you won't get the best price for your stock. On the plus side they usually take everything and pay up front.

Wow. 5%. That's nasty.

Really nasty!

Thanks for the head's up, though. With that kind of price, I'm not sure it's worth it. :)

We tried to off load stock, and companies would only pay 5%, the only other option was auction, not the online one.

if we had time, it would have been better to simply lower the prices to silly levels and keep selling retail, depends on the type of stock would depend on the best option, generate sales during a private time, or offload in volume at key times.

That's brilliant advice and I'm glad you mentioned it as that seems like the best advice - just to get rid of it.

I'm totally restructuring and it'd be nice to get rid of a load of stock...

I can maybe put you in touch with someone for the toys,
certainly worth a shot depending on quantities

I've been doing this for a few months now, bills to pay etc. and not enough sales to cover them. I've been cutting prices on the stuff that just isn't selling, doing eBay blowouts and making sure the new low sale prices are reflected in Google product listings. The trickier side is trying to find interesting new items to stock that *will* sell at full price!

Wish it was easy!

I have one range that sells very well and is keeping my company going fairly well, but it's hard finding similar things that will sell well without too much competition and I am a bit concerned about having most of my sales tied up in one area only.

Keep looking though! We'll find something eventually. :D

Good luck. We tried stock buyers, clearance companies, bulk order warehouses etc etc and out of 15 contacted only 2 got back to us...they never picked the stock up though, all prices were agreed, date for collection agreed then nothing..nada..still haven't heard from them 12 weeks after agreeing the sale.

We were talking around 3k of stock and they offered £1300 to clear the lot which shows how low they go.

Don't count your chickens until they're hatched. That stock you have is a minus figure until the cash hits your bank account.

How much can I realistically sell 70k of stock for to another company that wants to buy it to sell it (on a store much like my own)?

Any ideas?

its not going to be a lot, you don't want it, so its not current up to date stock, the other person again is going to have to sell it on at a wholesale price, so your not going to get it much for it selling to someone that will sell back to a retailer.

Why can't you just have a big clearance sale and mark everything down to 50% of retail? Are we talking eCommerce website or eBay here? If eBay, then can't you just list everything at 99p start + shipping and see where it gets you?

You would gross more doing that then you will selling to a stock clearance or as a joblot at an offline auction even if you only manage to clear half of it. Remember that people don't want to pay for other peoples stock because they know that a lot of it will be difficult to resell, that's precisely why people only want to pay 5% to 10% of RRP..... they wonder why you haven't been able to sell it yourself.

An alternative would be to bundle stuff up into wholesale lots of say 50 or 100 items and flog them eBay sellers for them to resell (via an eBay auction).

we used to go into large companies and offer to sell their excess stock for them, we would transfer it and manage the sale, take 70% and return them 30%, granted we did have a 40,000 square ft warehouse and staff to manage it.....any excess stock managment companies in your product area
