Chinese virus

Let’s get one thing straight and unarguable that everything you are saying and/or reporting is coming 2nd hand from you.. ie as what your hearing/seeing from media news outlets/you tube etc .. right or wrong? 100% right.

So your interpreting what your being told/shown. Right or wrong ? Of course right. So if official sources are saying 976 reported cases today and 71 deaths your completely believing that aren’t you? Of course you are. If not then you are disbelieving and making your own shizzle up.

Soooo this makes you a compliant peasant to all your being fed whether it’s true or false BUT as yet haven’t actually seen any evidence for yourself true or false ? Of course false Mr G as you live in Middle England with no zombies walking round with face masks and hundreds of body bags laid out on the streets but yet you believe the stories on the internet although you haven’t seen anything like this in your real world. Is that true or false? Of course true. So based on that you are completely believing what your told true or false ? Completely true obviously.. that’s why the nickname Mr Gullible.

Can you see how you have been completely manipulated by forces and swallowed up by the narrative put out? Let’s again be honest with this statement- are you not just assessing and believing what your told by the media ? Of course you are as you have not seen any physical evidence yourself on this perceived crisis.. how unbelievably gullible is that. You would not believe yourself Mr G at 20 years old being told this ie that although no physical evidence or proof has been shown to you but your TOLD that there is a killer virus/problem all around you and you need to do this that and the other to avoid it and get a vaccination that you go running to get.

Banter and oneupmanship aside let me openly ask these questions and rip me apart if you want but -

Did Princess Diana really die in a accident?

Was 9-11 manufactured.

Did Tony Blair lie about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Prince Andrew and Jimmy Saville are top guys.

Even if one of these rings true with you then why believe the film that is being shown to you at the moment without trusting your own eyes and ears ?

"perceived virus"

Tell that to W.H.O, The population of Wuhan City & Hubei Province, Deagu City in S Korea, the passengers on the cruise liner that was docked in Japan, the people in Lombardy and every city that will have people die from this virus.

BTW, all the above cities have had people die from flu, heart attacks, obesity and all other ailments that people generally die of. Given the fact that it's highly contagious, highly infectious and the death rate (based on official figures) is over 3% (compared to the average flu rate of 0.1%) with no known vaccination are the key differences.

You can argue that it's natures way of controlling the population number, but you can't argue that the virus doesn't exist. There is enough evidence from top epidemiologists.

The first stage of recovery from a mental illness is to accept the situation for what it is and not to be in denial.

I love banter.

Don’t worry Big Shot member I am respectful and won’t drag this into the gutter as you fear.

Good honest open dialogue even with a touch of spice is healthy and I would never get personal.. sorry if you thought this football hooligan would.

Shit - I only have one Budweiser left and actually I had a well rehearsed reply and thought out argument that I was going to fire back but have now completely forgotten what it was .... give me 10 mins

You're next going to tell me that Chelsea will catch Liverpool and win The Premier League.

You're the type of person I can have and enjoy a drink with, talk the whole night long and we will never agree on each other's view point (or most of the world's for that matter).

Get some sleep, we can continue tomorrow.

Be good and stay safe.

2. My Oriffice in China - exactly what I and I imagined many thought of you - when you said ‘ all the members who are following the post’ speaks volumes of your ego and high self awareness that you hold of yourself lol.. that’s why you like to be the bringer of news etc. Mate it’s so see through. Drop it and relax.

3. The sun will come up tomorrow and set in the evening despite your efforts.

I agree with all of your 6 points above.

Audiences are for the Pope.

I never demand anything, the drinks will be on me!

Now . . . go to sleep, stay safe, wash your hands and keep well . . . . . . .and when you're in a queue and the person in front of you is coughing, give them a cuddle.

Lol.. I can’t sleep yet until I get this point of my chest -

As a professional gambler I want to lay a bet with you and G ... I now refer to you and your alter ego Mr D as D and G ie Doom and Gloom. (Your effecting the mental health of the young folk btw)

Ok so in 3 months time where do you reckon we will be ? I can guarantee your bet will be this - economy in total disarray and hysteria and panic widespread causing employment problems and social breakdown (as you want it).

My bet is that - good old British Tommy’s will say ‘**** this for a laugh’ and turn up for work regardless of the sniffles and get on with it and leave you media snowflakes to sit at home at masturbate over daytime tv.

£5k on it.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Coronavirus Update March 4th:

Official figures for those tested: An additional 2222 infected with the virus yesterday, taking the total tested and infected to 93158.

Total deaths yesterday alone were recorded at 81, taking the total deaths recorded to 3198.

China: Saying that they have found 75 cases 'IMPORTED' into China from overseas travelers. Again implying that this is not a 'China' virus and that China is now suffering from travelers bringing the virus into China (Italians arriving into Hangzhou among other cities). Every 'main spreader' outside of China had connections to China. Make up your own minds.

Factories: Slow progress.

S Korea: Infected total 5328, 28 deaths. Categorising each patient after a full analysis and treating higher category patients in hospitals with ICU's. Carrying out 7500 tests per day. Still a backlog. Looking at alternative testing equipment to speed up results after testing.

Italy: 2502 infected, 79 deaths. Highest death rate outside of China.

Iran: 2336 infected, 77 deaths. Still kissing their shrines.

Japan: 293 infected, 6 deaths. Say Olympics will definitely go ahead. I'm not so sure.

France: 212 infected, 4 deaths.

Germany: 203 infected, no deaths reported.

Spain: 165 infected, first death reported.

USA: 125 infected, 8 deaths.

UK: 51 infected. Given that test results are taking an average of 3 days, the 51 have been allowed to mingle with family, workers and public. Chair of BMA, Dr Chaand Nagpaul said the Covid-19 virus has increased infectious potential and can penetrate cells. Mortality running at about 3% (Flu average is 0.1%) and carries a much greater threat for high risk category patients. There has to be preventive measures to contain the virus.

Are any UK airports taking any measures?

I'll further update tomorrow.

Stay safe and keep well.

Just a reminder:

It was asked that this thread be moved back from time-out to the general business forum.

Too much general chat about the virus, rather than business related chat about it, will probably see the thread moved back to time-out.

On a personal note, my ex-wife flew back from Australia 4 days ago via Singapore. She is coming into the office today. She has no flu symptoms.

Should I be worried? I’m seeing my daughter this weekend, who is three months pregnant.

What would the death rate from flu be if we had no immunity and no vaccines, i.e. the same situation we are in with COVID-19?

For me that would be a more interesting comparison rather than the 3-4% for COVID-19 v. less than 1% for flu.

Death rate from flu would be whatever it was before you started getting vaccinated. The big one was a century ago, between 4 and 10% would be the case fatality rate you can think of.
Though some will likely claim the figures wrong because they know the case fatality rate uses wrong figures.

We don't get vaccinated against all the strains here in the UK - the vaccine is produced well in advance and based on certain variations. Sometimes those are the ones we get hit with, sometimes we get vaccinated against strains that we don't come into contact with.

Even with vaccine there are still often tens of thousands dying as a result.

But you need to realize that it isn't the mortality rate or even the number of infections that matter. It is the medical system being overwhelmed that will increase the death rate significantly, without a functioning medical system, ie: infected staff, lack of beds(ICU), equipment, ppe, etc.

Plus people will die from other conditions because they will not have access to medical care... Medical resources are limited.

We have a few thousand intensive care beds.
Pneumonia can last weeks - and leave an impact that still requires some medical help afterwards.
And of course we will still have flu - which causes some people to need hospital admittance. Plus normal accidents, overdoses etc.

Was speaking to my heart nurse at the local hospital this am where we have just had a confirmed case, she had just come out of a meeting re the virus. Repeated the hand washing advice, mentioned their hand sanitiser is a foam based one, because all the local alcoholics use to go into the hospital and drink the old alcohol based sanitizer.

The hospital, serving over quarter of a million people, has two pods ready, and she mentioned the NHS was prepared for the virus. After laughing for a few seconds I expressed my viewpoint the NHS was not ready, and might not cope if the outbreak got bad, she agreed. She also mentioned that all non essential operations might be cancelled. She also agreed two isolation pods was woefully inadequate by any stretch of the imagination.

Most people will be left to their own devices IMO, a friend with a large restaurant has had over £2k of cancellations in the last 24hrs, so it is going to hurt a lot of businesses. Been out today and it is VERY quiet everywhere.

One new consequence. Watch out for substitution. One of my outstanding orders sent an update. Due to supply chain problems would I accept a small design change. Luckily from the photograph I also determined some internal changes that meant other hidden parts would be different. The alternative connection panel would actually have been ok really but the lack of one little switch pointed to another component being missing and this is a vital bit. Worth keeping an eye on things for a while I think. Some items seem to be still arriving normally but components from outside appear to be difficult to source

because of fears of Coronavirus!, I would never have thought it would have had such an effect

mind you I suppose many of us have elderly relatives and dont want the risk of public spaces.......

I tried to buy an LED E27 bulb from screwfix or toolstation earlier -literally every option I looked at had zero stock locally or online. Is this related to supply problems from China?

I’ve been with my elderly mother in hospital now for a week. No sign of any different treatment or testing here. Visitors in and out as usual, nobody really even monitoring that I can see.

Hopefully those who do become ill and remain at home at least have someone willing to look in on them.
Or organise someone in advance.

No problem here, but then Screwfix sell 66 different LED E27 bulbs and you didn't specify which one you were looking for. I don't think you can draw much conclusion from one style being out of stock.

For some reason, quite a few LED bulbs are not stocked locally by Screwfix but are available to click and collect the next day.

A positive impact of the virus?

https://uk.yahoo.com/news/coronavirus-boosts-uk-holiday-bookings-180442824.html

Copied in part here.
"
Global travel companies are already feeling the negative impact of coronavirus: Booking Holdings (which owns booking.com, priceline.com, kayak.com, cheapflights and momondo.com, among others), is predicting a 15% drop in total bookings in 2020. But UK tourism businesses are reporting a rise of up to 40% in traffic to their websites.

“For the period 1 January to 24 February 2020, we are, on average, 40% up on web visitors compared with the same period in the previous year,” said Steve Jarvis, owner of Independent Cottages. “Initial analysis of the most recent enquiries is that they appear to all be domestic – overseas enquiries have reduced significantly.”

UK campsites are seeing extra bookings, too. Listings site Campsites.co.uk. says year-on-year searches were up 18% in February, and nearly 30% so far in March.

“Lots of the most popular holiday parks and glamping sites already have less than 20% availability for peak summer, so families that have a clear idea of where they want to go should book now rather than risk missing out,” said founder Martin Smith. “In our experience, many sites wouldn’t normally have sold quite so much summer availability this early in the year, and certainly the traffic figures tie in to that.”

Nick Wyatt of data and analytics company GlobalData agreed: “Staycations are likely to make travellers feel more comfortable as they are familiar with the location, they can potentially avoid flying, and they know the health service and health structure.”

Glamping site Canopy and Stars says bookings for 2020 stays are up 33% on 2019, a continuation of a trend seen for several years now, and a reflection of the rise in popularity of holidays in natural settings. “Over the past few days in particular we have seen a really strong performance in terms of bookings,” said spokeswoman Emily Enright.

Accommodation site Host Unusual has also seen a rise in searches for more isolated and off-grid properties (up 45% and 38% respectively), as well as searches by people looking for properties close to where they live.

“It appears that staycations are evolving, with a tendency towards more remote settings and standalone accommodation,” said Host Unusual director Alex Wilson. “The key words here are isolation and exclusivity, away from crowds.”"
