Hello Everyone,

I know this isn't business related but I just wondered if there is anyone out there that is able to give a new home to a beautiful black and white, long haired male cat called Thursday.

We have just moved house and when we collected the keys we found that the original owners had left their cat behind. They had divorced and Mrs had moved to an estate where she didnt think it would be suitable to have a cat and although Mr had only moved in with his son next door, his son refuses to have the cat in the house as he doesn't like animals. We didn't move in for 6 weeks as the house needed some work doing to make it a bit more habitable so in that time I grew rather attached to Thursday and fed him hoping that when we did move in he would get on with my cat. Unfortunately, 2 1/2 weeks in they are still not getting on and my cat is so terrified he wont leave the bedroom. Sadly, he also isnt well so being beaten up everytime he leaves the bedroom is not doing him much good.

Regretably we have decided that we have no option but to rehome Thursday who is around 8 years old. I have tried speaking to his old owners but they are not interested. It would break my heart to take him to a rescue centre so I am trying to find someone who will take him in. He loves people and was brought up with dogs so he should be ok with them but it does seem he would be best off in a home that doesnt have a cat. We live on the hampshire/surrey/berkshire border so if you are interested or if you know of anyone else that maybe interested in him, please pm me and I will send you some more info.

Many thanks

Bear

Only an idea but have you tried a cat owners type forum for advice on how to introduce the cats so they get along better??

Only an idea and prob a silly one, but Ho-Hum ya gotta try!!

If you are up to it I would have a go with getting them together. Either through an animal psychologist (not tried one but do know someone who with with success) or through chemicals. One of my cats became a bit aggressive when he was growing up and our vet gave us pills which totally chilled him out - he got quite fat but when we took him off the pills he slimmed down again. We never had problems again with him. I have cats and live in central London with no garden else I would help out (of course)

This is a difficult one, and stories like this are unfortunately common place. I think your best option is to take Thursday to a re homing centre, who will do everything in their power to give him a new and responsible home. It was commendable of you to try and keep him, and I have seen cases where this has happened and the existing cat has never accepted the new one.

Re-homing centres are not as bad as people think, and you can always visit to inspect their premises. You should take comfort in the knowledge that you have done everything you can, and are now giving him the opportunity of having a new life.

Good luck.

I think it is a little too quick after 2 and 1/2 weeks - have you seperated them, put them in different rooms, tried putting them together for a very short amount of time and then putting them together for a longer amount of time each day. We have 2 cats who are only just getting on without any fighting/swearing after about a month - one was a stray. If you can give this a go. If not maybe put an ad in the local paper?

Wish I could have Thursday :( But with 4 dogs and 2 cats its a bit of a squeeze as it is :(

I hope it works out for you :)

Thank you to everyone that responded and I am pleased to say that Thursday has now moved in with a new family.
I had tried everything everyone had suggested but unfortunately my cat was terrified and I had to put him first despite the fact that I was very fond of Thursday. Since Thursday has gone my cat has come out of his shell again and is a happy little man - it has reassured me that I made the right decision although it was a very hard one.
